What To Eat During Soft Food Stage?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Aug 20th and I started my soft food stage but I am so confused. I don't know what to eat and I have gotten some ideas from the forum. What I don't get is am I suppose to blend ( puree) every single thing I eat. I can't see how to puree chicken or ground beef? I imagine it must look something awful plus does the tuna and tilapia need to be pureed too? What about macaronnie and cheese would that be something I can eat? Does the chillie need to be blended too? I also someone posted eating corn beef hash, was that also blended or could it be eaten out of the can. I am desperate for some answers. I will be extremely thankful for your advice.

I think it depends on the doc. I am supposed to only have soft eggs, cottage cheese and yogurt. I've had roast beef hash and Beans because I needed something with flavor. I'd call your doctor's office and ask. I haven't puréed anything, just chewed really well. Whatever you do, take it very slowly.

My soft stage was Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs etc. Remember you are still trying to eat Protein so that you have energy, and avoid high amounts of carbs. With that being said, I would not turn to Mac and cheese ........as yummy as it can be.

Mac & cheese is out! Scrambled eggs, sugar free pudding, cottage cheese, sugar free apple sauce,

cream of chicken Soup, yogurt, mashed Beans, egg salad... Good luck. If you want your sleeve to work, you will follow your Dr & dietitians orders... If you make a Protein Shake, put it in a blender

with ice... Makes them taste soooo much better. I do the Body Fortress powder with ice & Water in

the blender. Delicious! And you can add sugar free pudding mix to it for added flavor. Try different combinations. Experiment, just don't go back to your old foods, remember that's what got us in trouble the first time. Good luck.

You need to ask your doctor what their definition of soft foods is. My doctor does puréed and then onto soft foods which means no pureeing. I start soft foods in two days which will be things like: yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, shredded cheese, oatmeal, lean meats or poultry, deli meats, fish, tuna, shellfish (baked, broiled, grilled, or boiled), tofu, eggs, Beans, tender cooked veggies (avoid veggies with tough skins, fried, and raw), fruit (unsweetened frozen, canned, or fresh soft), potatoes (limit these), etc.

These are what my doctor's office consider to be soft foods. Remember that all of the above items should be low or nonfat (i.e. cottage cheese, yogurt).

Anyways, hope this helps a little!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
