Essure Vs Paraguard

Recommended Posts

IM taking this opportunity to change my form of birth control to something with no hormones. Also, with the conflicting info about effectiveness of the pill, I would be paranoid every month. Heck! I'd be paranoid everytime I had sex (and that is NOT a mood enhancer). I'm 40 and done having kids. Don't want a bonus baby 15 years after my last kid. I've been married 17 years and we find condoms just annoying, BTW

So, I've been researching the main two options. One is Essure that inserts little stints in the fallopian tubes and causes them to seal themselves off so you have permanent sterilization without surgery. The other is Paraguard, the hormone free IUD.

Anyone use either other these? What are your thoughts?

I've been having these same thoughts and questions. Thanks for bringing it up!

There's very little discussion here on Essure and more on mirena than Paraguard. Just hoping we can get a good discussion going.

I had an IUD years ago. I know it was hormone free. I loved it. No muss, no fuss. I finally had it taken out and my husband had a vasectomy.

My friend has never had hers taken out. Her GYN told her, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I personally would want it taken out. She's had it in for nearly 30 years!

Is there any particular reason your husband can't get a vasectomy? The recovery is quick, and then the two of you could be worry free from then on.

We've discussed the vasectomy option but for our own reasons decided on either the Essure or Paraguard.

Gee that's strange. I had an iud and never had any pain what so ever. All my friends had them. My daughter has one, and both my daughter in laws have them.

I had the ensure procedure done in 2007. It was so simple and effective. I highly recommend it. So little hassle and no fear of pregnancy.

I know this is an old thread, but I am getting Essure inserted on Feb 5th and I was wondering if you ever ended up getting it. If so I would love to know how you like it?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
