Calorie Intake

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm almost 5 months out and I struggle with my Protein intake. I take in around 60-80grams a day but I notice my cal intake is going up to almost 1100 a day. What r you guys taking in on average.

At almost 12 weeks post-op, I'm averaging between 550 and 650 calories a day. My Protein intake is between 80 and 90 grams/day. I still supplement with a Protein Shake every morning (chocolate Muscle Milk lite...only 100 calories in 8 oz, and 15 grams protein), and have a Gelatein 20 every day or two (4 oz has just 88 calories, and 20 grams of protein). The majority of what I eat, throughout the day, is protein based, because my capacity is still relatively limited (I can only eat around 2 oz of dense protein (meat) at a time). If I manage to get 2 oz of meat down, I may have a couple small bites of a non-starchy veggie....I never make it to anything starchy. :)

I drink muscle milk light the powder so I can add a little strawberries or blueberries and I drink muscle milk the ready made shake. This is the only brand so far that I love. I can eat 3-4oz dense Protein without problem but when I add starch it is not so good. I also work twice a week doing a kick boxing class for 45mins. I work 16hrs in a hospital on the other days and I am always on my feet. How is everyone handling their carbs. I treat myself once in a while so I don't over do it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
