What Triggers The Eating Habits That Got Us Here

Recommended Posts

I just made an interesting connection. The two times I've eaten a small amount too fast and subsequently had pain and threw up, I was stressing out because my husband was grumping around the house at me and the kids. While I ate the right food and the right amount it was awful. So this sleeve is supposed to be a tool to help us figure out how to treat food correctly. I guess my first lesson is that I stuff down my stress with food. In the past I would have chosen something like Ben and Jerry's and not been full until it was gone. Thank you sleeve! Now the grumpy husband is another forum. :)

I like to look for these connections too. Thanks for more perspective.

It is best to eat in a calm frame of mind and just concentrate on enjoying the food and being mindful of "the rules."

Best- yes, always possible- not necessarily.

I do find myself wanting sugar free popsicles one after another at night during tv.-- (or doing that open fridge, close fridge thing). So even when it's fine calorie wise- it's still a habit born of wanting eat during certain times I always did in the past.

I remember thinking how this one (thin) person I know ate so much almost constantly. She would eat only fruits and vegs. as a snack but it was so often that she seemed obsessed with food that I figured she had to have some kind of problem she was stuffing down.

I love the words 'grumping around the house!'. Love it! Gonna borrow it from you! They really can be grumps, can't they be?

And yep, when I'm stressed I want to walk right to the frig.....

It's so good to hear that the sleeve helps with emotional eating! This was one of my fears... My Lapband never helped me with that (besides throwing up). Thanks for the tip!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
