Is It Normally To Be In A Bad Moid On Day 9 Of Pre Op Diet

Recommended Posts

Today I am having a very difficult time. I am so irritated by everything. I am on a mini vaca from Philly to NYC with kids and hubby. The smells of food is making me so angry. Is this normally my husband doesn't understand why I want to go home.

Today is 22 days out for me. I was not myself until I started pureed/soft foods at day 15 and felt like I was actually eating food. Way more options and I didn't feel so miserable and grumpy :)

You are devorcing food. It feels like i am losing a best friend. I have been on the pre-op diet for 6 days now. I hate going anwhere other than work(because i got to) and home. I hate looking at tv, resturants, any thing dealing with food. With that said, it's normal!!

Yuppers quite normal. Unfortunately though this moodiness is not going away anytime soon. You are gonna have to work on controlling it, and I would also advise explaining to your husband & kids why you are this way, so that they understand & know what to expect.

Now so that you understand, I'll break it down the short way.

Estrogen is stored in fat cells,

You are burning fat cells at an abnormally high rate

Burning fat cells release their estrogen stores into the blood stream

So, now you are being bombarded with massive amounts of estrogen.

Can you say moody, and short tempered?....... I new you could.

So now you can break it down to hubby and tell him that the price he's gotta pay to have a sexy thin wife, is to deal with your moodiness till the weight is gone.

After that you can't blame it on the estrogen released from fat anymore. ;)

I promise you after the surgery you feel quite different about food.< /p>

It's there but you just don't want it. The most freeing feeling in the world!!

Before you know it..... :)

Omg, totally did NOT even think about this as a possibility! So glad I read this thread! I am pre-op and trying to mentally prepare.

Interesting thing for me will be when I start the liquid diet before, starting next Fri. Though I am a very laid back person, my mood shows when I am hungry, always has. When everything around me irritates me, I ask myself "am I hungry" and yes is always the answer. A niece of mine thinks its funny. Yeah, ha.

Maybe that is what's happening to you. Your probably starving and smelling all the awesome food in NYC (which is part of the whole atmosphere there) is pissing you off. But I find it does help to some extent when you can identify what's going on. And drink those Protein shakes! Soo sorry your going thru this. Try not to let it get the best of you. Control it best you can and enjoy NYC. Being there could help time pass quickly for you before surgery instead of being home where anxiety could kick in. Enjoy the distraction.

Now, as for what OTR said, well geez, we will have to deal with that as it comes. Good info to be aware of, that's for sure!!

Godspeed!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
