How long until the dreaded PB

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I've read much about the dreaded PB. My question is, how long from the time of food consumption until the PB occurs? I just had a slice of pizza Hut pizza, and was able to eat the whole thing, crust and all.

My question is, if I'm going to experience a PB, how long will I have to wait? Right now, I feel fine. I'm a little full from the pizza, but don't feel anything horrible.

Thanks for your all your help!

I've been banded for over 2 months and had my first one today. It wasn't as bad as I thought but pretty painful. I had called yesterday and scheduled a fill for tomorrow because I could eat bread, steak, or anything and don't you know it today I pb'd. I was eating a piece of toast with Peanut Butter for which I do everyday. I noticed about half way through my chest got tight but I just kept on eating like an idiot. Then the chest pain got horrible. I tried the yoga positions, I tried raising my arms, I tried walking and when I walked into the bathroom it was like projectile vomiting, sorry if gross but within 30 seconds it was up and relief was there instantly. It wasn't at all like vomiting before the band. It wasn't bad at all. Man, relief felt so good. Hope you don't ever have to do it but schedule a fill and I bet you will. LOL

Normally, if you are going to pb, it happens while you are eating the food. And, you will know immediately that it is happening. If you are already done eating and not feeling any pain or pressure, then you should be fine.

I have been banded for 4 weeks, I am clueless to what PBing is. I have not had a fill yet, but I do get the swallowing a golf ball feeling in my chest sometimes. So is PB's, just vomiting? :help:

I have been banded since January and I have not pbd yet. Not that I want to. But I can eat bread, steak or anything I want and it has never come back up. It makes me wonder if I am not tight enough. Maybe I need another fill. Are there others people like this. I have been told that if I can eat bread and meat ok that I need a fill. What do you think?

I have not had my first fill yet, so I can eat a small amount of bread, mostly in dry form (toast, crusty breads). I really don't do a lot of red meat, not because I am this really healthy person; chicken and fish cook way faster. I have to be for real, I could have used a fill 2 weeks after my band went in. Get a fill, sounds like we both need one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
