Hello!

I have been a horrible lurker for about a month now... maybe I should finally introduce myself???

I am a 40 year old mother of 3, ages 23, 19, and 17. I work in the I.T. department at a credit union in Eastern Iowa.

This website is amazing!! I have found a huge amount of information about lap-band from all of your experiences with it.

After a ton of research, I have decided to be banded by Dr. Ortiz in Tiajuana <sp?>. Geez... I hope I remember some of the Spanish I learned in college! heheheh

My insurance has a rider that says it will not pay for bariatric surgery no matter what... bummer.. So I am putting myself in debt with the hope that losing all of this weight will help prevent some of the serious health issues that my parents are dealing with now. I think the long range benefits outweigh a tighter budget for a while!

Anyway, nothing much more to say right now, just wanted to say hello! :faint:

Hi Lynn and welcome to LBT! I am glad you decided to start posting, the more the merrier. It seems like there are a lot of insurance plans that just refuse to cover wls. I had to refinance my home in order to pay for my surgery. But, dh and I figure it will be worth it if it means my having a longer, happier and healthier life.

I look forward to seeing many more posts from you. Don't be afraid to ask for advice and support, that is what we are all here for.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
