Mimismom 49 Posted September 7, 2012 Hi All, I had my surgery July 11th. For the most part I was doing two Protein Shakes a day and keeping everything else very low carb. My weight has been coming off slowly and I feel my digestive system is mad at me. Lately I have been incorporating carbs, still doing my Protein shakes and eating as a normal person would (think weight watchers) and it seems the weight is coming off quicker. I was scared to use this approach because everything I read goes against it. What do you all think about doing lean cuisines for my lunches and dinner for example and having Cereal for Breakfast? Has anyone reached their goal with this way of eating? Is there a reason low carb is not working as effectively? Thanks in advance
DEZ1975 170 Posted September 7, 2012 I was told carbs were ok if I kept it to 30 grams or less a day. Many of the Lean Cuisines are higher in carbs than you would think. I would just read the lables.
lollyfidy1965 402 Posted September 7, 2012 I keep my carbs below 30 grams/day, and have beautifully steady weight loss since surgery (June 19th). I found a Lean Cuisine yesterday...steak portobello with broccoli...that was really quite good! AND...it had no noodles, rice, mashed potatoes, etc...no garbage starchy carbs in it at all! It was 160 calories, with 16 grams of Protein, and 12 grams of carbs (from the broc, and whatever they used to thicken the gravy)...and it was more than enough for a meal (it took me an hour to finish it LOL). THAT kind of Lean Cuisine is, in my opinion, fine. Its been recommended to me (by both my surgeon and nutritionist) to avoid anything with starchy foods (the rices, potatoes, noodles, etc), so most of the "quickie" meals (like Lean Cuisine, and even the Weight Watchers choices) are off-limits for me. I will be getting more of the one I tried yesterday, though!
kdippy 36 Posted September 7, 2012 Ok, from the get go, all I wanted was to lose this weight. I had my surgery on Dec. 12, 2011, about 9 months ago. I started at 258, and now I'm 168, I've lost 90 pounds so far. I will lose about 25 more, in the time coming. I have not been to a doctor since my six weeks check-up, and I feel great. I have not taken any protien drinks or vitimans since my six week check-up. I have and do eat everything, except, I only eat supper, and that is a small portion. If I want a scone for breakfast once a week, by gosh, that is what I have. I don't really exercise, but my job, has me running alot. I have gone from a size 20 to a 10. I'm 54, and have never felt this great in many years. Your smart, eat good. When my hair fell out, every one said use this or that, guess what didn't use anything, it stopped falling out and now it better than ever. Just use common sense. You didn't go thru this surgery to screw up now. Good luck
