Nervous About Denial.

Recommended Posts

Am going into month 4 of my 6 month supervised diet, and I'm not losing any weight. In fact, I gained 4 pounds in month 3 and have not been able to take it off. I do have a letter from my PCP that states that I have trouble losing weight due to my thyroid not being regulated yet. But since they tell you during the 6 month diet not to gain, I am worried that this will just ruin it for me.

I have upmc for you... Which is a Medicaid ins here in Pittsburgh. My bmi is 40 with asthma and back issues. I need this and I am so worried. Any help is appreciated.

If you do get denied, don't give up. Keep trying! I've seen multiple stories on here where people were denied a couple of times before approval. For some ins. companies it seems that first request denial is standard practice. So, don't let a denial get you down, wear the insurance company down.

Does your surgeons office require weight loss? I too have ConnrcticuT Medicaid. I gained 7 pounds and was able to take it off. I think u will be OK because of your bmi and that u have other complications. Just stay positive and hope for the best. I'm still waiting for my Approval its only been one day but soon anxious. Good luck to u! My insurance and surgeon do not require weight loss they just want u to maintain, stay consistent, bring food journals and show that u are really trying :)

Good luck to you! I hope the approval comes sooner than later. Pins and needles, I bet!

All I know is that a loss is not required, but it's recommended that you not gain. How serious the implications are for a gain depend on the insurance company and that's where I get worried. I also have to keep a food log and all that good stuff.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
