How Long Does It Take For Them To Schedule Surgery When U Start?

Recommended Posts

Depends on a lot of different factors. I went to my first appt in February and had surgery May 15th!

Depends. My Insurance company did not require a 6 or 3 mo. period. In my case it was just a matter of how quickly I got all my testing done. You dont want to miss any appointments so it doesnt push anything back. I started the process at the end of June and my surgery is Oct 2. I could have had it on Sep 17th but I had a prior appointment for that date. Hope that helps.

It depends a lot on what the insurance company requires. I have heard it taking 6 months for some people. I initially brought up the idea of wls to my pcp on 07/17 and he recommended a surgeon. I did not contact the surgeon's office until about 08/13, NUT class on 08/21, initial consult with surgeon on 08/23, psych evaluation on 08/27 and received approval from insurance on 09/04 and surgery date on 09/21.

My process has taken about 9 weeks, a little under 2 1/2 months. I wasn't required to do the supervised diet because my surgeon doesn't think it's necessary.

I have Kaiser, had to wait 11 months, had to take a 12 week class to teach me how to eat before and after surgery, lose 20 pounds,do blood test, but it was worth it.

I had my initial consult on July 18, 2012 and my surgery is this Thursday, 9/13/12. My doc required 2 appts with the dietician in his office, 1 support group through his office, psych eval, chest X-ray, upper GI, blood work and EKG. I also had to have my primary fill out a form letter showing support. Additionally, I had to document my weight loss attempts going back 5 years. That was all submitted to my insurance (horizon blue cross blue shield of new jersey) and they approved it. Start to finish was less than 2 months. Good luck!

I went to the first appointment in July and am scheduled for surgery tomorrow.i did not have to do any Medically supervised diet, t hank God!

I did have to have a psyche eval, sleep study, endoscope and cardiac workup. And of course blood work and the rest of the preadmission testing. Seems every insurance and doctors have their own requirements. Good luck in your journey!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
