Cuban here! I am only 6 weeks out . So far have added salsa, hot sauce, and refried Beans back into my diet. Want to try tortillas, but am a little scared. I will spend Thanksgiving with my husbands Italian family, swear they are just as bad food pushers and advocates for thick extra curvy women!

My husband is Dominican Taino, I am Puerto Rican Taino, between the PR food, The DR food (much of which overlaps) and the Taino food...just didn't know when to stop. Now, hopefully I will still be able to eat most of it (oh god, no rice??) and my future sleeve will tell me when to stop.

There are any ways' date=' but to cheat a little you can use the following:

Depending on how much you want to make:

1-2 32 oz containers of egg nog, you can also make it from scratch but this way is quicker.

1-2 15 oz cans of cream of coconut

1-2 14 oz cans of condensed milk

1/2-3/4 liter total of Bacardi dark rum and Myers rum ( I like it strong, but you can use less depending on you taste). You can leave out the Myers, I do that as a homage to my wife's WI heritage.

1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon- (I use fresh ground cinnamon)

1/4 teaspoon of cloves

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (again I use fresh ground)

Blend all the ingredients together and refrigerate for 2 hours. shake well, serve and enjoy. I garnish the glass with a fresh cinnamon stick.

Yes, it is great to have a wife who cooks so well, she also owns her own bakery. Now you see my dilemma.

Enjoy the recipe[/quote']

Buplee, you are awesome thanks for sharing the recipie. I look forward to making it and hopefully being a hit at the holiday party... Wow, wife is a baker.... Omg. I see ans share in your dilemma, my husband is a foodie, he is a former Marine with a hearty Cuban Italian appetite. Plus he is a feeder, me or the dog, he wants to feed us, he equates that with love as most people do. I'm not sleeved yet but reading some crazy complications here I'm on the fence big time... So scary.. you know .....

Baby Beluga,

You are welcome for the recipe, and yes it is hard with a wife who is a baker and is thin. There are complications with any surgery. Don't use the forum as your source for info, speak to your surgeon's office about complications. I too was nervous, but I thought about and decided I want to be thin. I want to shop in departments stores in the "normal" section, and not in the big and tall or the portly section. I thought about the band at first and have two neighbors who have had serious issues with the band, and told me they wish the sleeve was around when they had wls.

Think about the future. Do you want to go through yo-yo weight loss or do you want a lifestyle change? I have lost a lot of weight in my life and gained it back each time. The road along your journey will not be easy at times, but the benefit will be worth the effort. I know mine won't given the cultures and the foods. Do your research and speak to a medical professional and you will be fine.

Think carefully and you will make the right choice for you. Best to you on your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
