Does your stomach ever fully heal? Or are you indefinitely at risk of leakage & have to go get checked every so often? er how's that work?... :)

Yes, it does heal. The scar tissue will form over the staples and there will be no risk of leakage from the surgery. How long that takes is going to be different for everyone, of course, but don't push yourself and do everything right, you will be out of the woods in a few weeks.
