If blood glucose or HBA1C are on ur list then yes. U do not need to fast for an EKG. I did my EKG and blood work on the same day, so I took a Protein Shake with me. Once the woman was done taking my blood I drank the shake while waiting for an EKG. Sorry, I'm not sure what other tests u are getting done

You should always be fasting for a glucose level. The HgbA1c does not require fasting, as it is a measurement of glucose levels over a 3-month period of time. (I don't answer many medically related questions on this site, because they should be asked of the surgeon, but, having worked in the medical laboratory world, as the director of operations, for the last 11 years, I feel I am actually qualified to answer this particular question. :) )

If your doctor is ordering lipid testing (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides), you should also be fasting.

Best of luck!

Laura

I'm waiting for my final of four needle sticks for the same lab work. It's okay to drink Water. Actually, it's helpful when they look for veins. The glucose drink was so sickeningly sweet! I sure hope I can stay awake for the next half hour until the last stick!

My doc also wants us off all Vitamins 3 days prior to labs so they have accurate results.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
