Did you feel like this????

Tayvia,

Just make them eat their words and show them what the band can do for you. Soon you'll be getting positive comments: Wow, look at you!

My husband and family were negative too, but I've had plenty of little comments about my weight loss all ready and I only had the surgery 1 week ago, so I fully remember post op. My incisions are healing well now and I see the numbers on the scale falling steadily. What more could you want?

Get motivated! You did this for yourself, not your friends!

I am not a huge eater and I try to work out.

A couple of things come to mind that remind me of myself when I read your story. My husband and I did not think that I ate very much, either. I am not even one month out now and when we go to restaurants, I order grilled fish or grilled chicken dishes that I used to eat. Now, I eat about a fourth of it and take 3/4's home for my mom or left overs. It is hard for me to fatham that I used to eat ALL of THAT and bread!! You may realize that you ate more than you thought you did, maybe not, your words just reminded me of how I thought before the band.

I also deep down inside knew that I had some emotional attachments to food however I didn't really want to address them "out loud". The band has helped me fight those issues in just the short time I have been banded. I am not saying that I am cured by any means, but recognizing the "real" issues is suppose to be the first step and that is where I feel like I am. So by saying that about myself, thinking that you could have eaten less and not be in your situation now is easy to for you or your friends to say, however it may not be as easy as you or everyone thinks.

Faybie,

You know I think you might have hit it on the nose. Even though I didnt think I ate a lot, I new I had a emotional attachment to food. It is funny I always tell my mom that she eats like a bird and ask her how she could live off what she eats. Well last night I saw her eat dinner and I said how could you eat that after all you have eaten today. She and I laughed about it. Just a few days out and I already have a different perspective on things.

Ha Ha! If I am reading that correctly, now you think your mom eats a lot? Now thats pretty funny. I notice how much people really eat now too, and the sad thing is every single person I notice, eats less than I used to. I must have just really looked like a pig without realizing it... LOL.

It's strange, I didn't get the band because I thought I ate too much or because I thought I had emotional attachments to food.... those are just two things I have learned about myself in the last month.

ONE day post op??? I was lying on the bed almost dead that day!! I couldn't even watch tv or hold a book let alone type on the computer!

Don't worry, I lost 18 kg and I still curse myslelf for doing this to myself.

I had a one night stay in the hospital, (my doctor now does this surgery as outpatient), and by day three, I drove myself to the grocery store. BUT, by the end of the day, I was still feeling fine, but as I sat and watched my son eat a huge plate of food, I thought OMG, what have I done?

This lasted a few days, then through some good advice from my friends at LBT, I was reminded I would be able to eat again soon, and pretty much what ever I wanted, but in much smaller amounts. So, it does pass and I love my band.

I wish you the best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
