Anyone That Has Had Complications After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was just curious to know if you had complications and had to go to the ER did your surgeon attend to you or was it just hospital staff?

I am just trying to think, because right now I am in between going to Mexico or staying local and in the event I had to go to the ER say after I returned from Mexico I wondered if it would be a problem <<knock on wood I wont even need to>>.

Thank you in advance for your replies and I hope everyone has recovered or are recovering from

complications :)

If you had surgery in Mexico but live in the states I would still go to a hospital near you that has a bariatric surgeon. They will be able to treat you. For the rest of our lives if we need a nasogastric tube it needs to be placed by a bariatric surgeon. Also most complications are dehydration and minor other things not leakage so hospital staff can handle that.

Thank you, that helps :). The one hospital that I go to (if i have to visit the ER) one of the surgeons I would have used if my insurance paid works out of that hospital so I feel a bit better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
