Do You Need To Do 6 Month Wait If Had The Band?

Recommended Posts

I had my band for yrs and had it removed because it slipped. I'm not sure if it eroded but I was a pretty sick lady. My surgeon said he'd never replace the band on me but if i was to gain (I was thin from the band) back the pounds he would sleeve or do bypass. I'd say it's 2 yrs later and I gained it back. Insurance requirments for sleeve is to do the 6 month diet log thing. Here's my question....If I was already banded, do you think I'd have to do the 6 month wait...did you have to after the removal of your band??? I recently had so many other tests (stress, endo, labs, ultrasound) that I'm not worried about having to wait around for tests, I'm just concerned about the 6 month wait....do ex bandsters have to endure this again???

Be well and successful!!

Thanks for any/all 411

when i found out that my band had slipped, my doctor then told me about the sleeve. After talking to him for an hour i told him lets do this. I did all my pre op stuff in less then 3 week and had to wait one week for insurance to approve. so it took me all of 30 days, and doctor removed my band and did the sleeve all in one surgery.

Wow, 30 days...Good for you!! When I had mine removed, I wasn't in any condition to have the sleeve put in. They wanted to take mine out as an emergency (I was already in the hospital) but when my blood work came back in the E.R. my potassium was dangerously low and they had to give me bags of it for 24 hrs just to get it at a "normal" range. If you don't already know, postassium is *no joke* when you take it through an I.V. Thanks for your information. I'm wondering about others also that didn't have the sleeve done at the same time they took out the band. I hope you're doing well w/ your sleeve :)

I have united/Oxford municipality plan and had to wait 6 long month.but it was way worth it

so you had your Lapband removed and later decided to have the sleeve (and even though you already went through the process of the band) you had to wait for 6 months of diet/nutrition for your ins to approve you???

Did my band to sleeve one surgery. I was told that if my stomach wasn't good I would have to come back for the sleeve , but all was well.

So your saying that your revision and gastric sleeve cost you 5500 or was it just the revision. Have you lost since having your surgery?

I just found out, 2 weeks before my scheduled revision from band to sleeve, that my insurance denied the whole thing. I have to go through the 6 month nutrition thing AGAIN. Also the psych AGAIN! Well,i hope i pass cause this is making me craaaazy! I got the band in 2005 and the most weight lost was in the month before and 2 months after. I had a hard time with the band w/o drinking something when I eat. it also made me gag, drool, sweat. I wish i had done more research. And i never felt satiety...just an overloaded gullet! So now I hope the insurance will at least cover getting the band out. And then hopefully cover the sleeve. But we are all at the mercy of the insurance companies.

I had the band to sleeve revision so I did not have to wait 6 months but since yours has been off a while..you may have to start the process all over again. The best answer is to read your insurance coverage and then contact them.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
