So Upset! May Have To Re-Do The Surgery!

Recommended Posts

I just returned from my 6 week post op check up. As I have been telling my doctor and dietician from the beginning...I am hungry and I can eat too much! (examples: 3 eggs and 3 turkey sausage links/ entire 2 cup can of Soup / full plate of fish and green Beans...I always stop myself because I SHOULD, but know that I could eat more!) The dietician was so condescending. She just kept telling me that I just need to continue making healthy choices. She does not understand the fear of losing 100+ pounds, only to gain it back again. (which I have done several times) In fact, she encouraged me to eat like I used to...just to see what happens. I really feel like the surgery has not been helpful...I just feel like I am on a diet. I am hungry often, and simply relying on my willpower. What is going to happen when I have a weak moment and eat something I shouldn't eat? I was really counting on my sleeve to allow me to say "Well, at least I only ate 4 tablespoons of it".

I am having another upper GI on Monday. But the doc says the only thing he can do is go back in and try to tighten things up. I said "So...basicly re-do the surgery?" He nodded "yes." I told him I only had one shot at this because of finances, time off, and the fact that I will not upset my kids again by going back into the hospital for 3 more days.

I am pretty much devistated. That is my sleeve story thus far. :(

Wow, something seems very odd about that to me, like maybe the doctor should pay for the mistake. I am 3.5 weeks out and I can only hold about 1/4 cup max of food, usually it is 1/8 cup. I hope all goes well with you. Good luck!

you guys are making me worried because I can eat 4oz with no problem. However, depending on the food sometimes I have to eat a little less. Am I eating to much? I'll be 1 month post op on the 9th

I can eat 4oz np either but what I do to eat a little less, measure your food and put it on a very small plate so it looks a lot try not to exceed to 4oz that's what I do even though you can eat 4 oz dnt go up to 4oz that's like your full point

Are you on a PPI? I have a gnawing, almost like hunger, feeling when I don't take my PPI. If you aren't you might want to get on one. Also, most of what you mention eating is fairly soft - how much chicken breast can you eat? Dense Proteins will fill you up and keep you full longer.

i know its disappointing but you might have been one of the people who had a bigger stomach size going into the op they still follow the same line and still cut away the same amount but if you happen to be one of the people with a bigger stomach to begin with then you pouch is bigger.

Instead of a 3-4oz holding pouch it can be up to 10oz this doesn’t mean you should eat 10oz every meal and snack time it makes drinking easier but you can try tricking your stomach, drink right till 15mins before food then take your time to eat 4oz 30mins or so wait 30mins then drink drink drink hopefully the Water will fill you up and trick you into thinking your full see if that works for you.

If you can manage the diet side that way then maybe you won’t need a re do and you will get used t eating the smaller amount and drinking more.

You need to find out how big your pouch is exactly they should know they did it they should know if you have a bigger one than standard and by how much to help you control food and how much you eat and drink you might even be able to change how many times you eat maybe smaller portions 6 times a day would be better for you than big meals.

A redo shouldn’t be top of the list when you need info on whats already been done and ways to work with it not just standard do this or that which everyone is told.

What is a PPI?

Boy, this thread is all over the map! A PPI is an Proton pump inhibitor, like Nexium or Prevacid or Protonix. It cuts acid production in the stomach that can feel like hunger.

4 oz is a lot if you are only a month out. The nerves in your stomach were cut and probably haven't all healed yet. Try eating a few tablespoons less and see if you are satisfied. No need to eat until you are full.

Sassypants, we have a stomach, albeit a tiny one, not a pouch. RNY patients have a pouch.

To the OP--How many sleeves has your surgeon done? If he is proposing another surgery, it sounds like he was very conservative the first time and left too much tissue behind. It's a fine line between making a sleeve too small and running the risk of stricture and leaving it too large. If your upper GI shows your stomach is too big, see if your surgeon will waive his fee because he made the error.

 Because it really matters if I say pouch/stomach/sausage sack/food sack people say pouch all the time it’s not the original stomach and a easier way of defining between what we used to have and what we have now.

So give me a break!

Hey, didn't your mom ever say "Everyone else is doing it, hmm? And if "everyone else" was jumping off a cliff, would you do that too?" :P

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
