Vet Sleevers Question....about Feeling Full

Recommended Posts

Do you ever if at all get back that full feeling without pain or is pain always going to be associated with it?

For example....I don't feel full when I have my four spoons of food like I would feel full before surgery. I only know I'm full when I get the pain in my chest. Will that ever go away? Or will I forever feel pain when/if I over eat?

Just curious.....thanks :D

Im a year and a half out. At first, the only way I knew I was full, was hiccups. Now, I still get the hicups, but I also have pain when I over-over eat. I say it will go away - for the most part. It may come and go from time time you may still feel it, but I think you'll be good once your body adjusts to the new tumtum and the way it triggers that "full" feeling.

Good luck =)

Not sure. I'm 5.5 weeks out. All I can tell you is that my hunger and my feelings of fullness are different now than they were before surgery. I can tell when I need to eat (am "hungry"), and I eat what I think I can eat, and just go really slowly once I get to the end of the food. Most of the time I can't quite eat it all (and we are talking 1/3-1/2 cup of food total). The first couple of weeks, I would get a sharp pain in my left shoulder when I was getting full. THat eventually went away, and now I just feel restriction. I don't eat enough to make myself sick (I haven't thrown up since the day of my surgery). Eventually you will get to know the signs of fullness before pain sets in. Only once or twice have I eaten enough to make my stomach hurt.

I'm 2.5 yrs post-op and when I'm full I have the normal full feeling like the old days. No pain. But if I really push it I will get a bit of pain - when that happens I get up and walk around until things "settle" a bit. The first year for sure I had pain when I pushed my pouch to the limit, but not anymore. Best of luck to you!

I'm seven months out and it seems like more of a regular full, but I've learned to eat slowly and very small bites. I hate that over full feeling and I eat so slowly now that it just doesn't happen much at all anymore. But if I over eat it still hurts and is uncomfortable like shortly after surgery. Best wishes.

I'm the same as TexasT above. I get a normal full feeling and after more get REAL uncomfortable and I suppose after that I WOULD get sick but have not pushed it that far. It's been this way for a few mmonths for me, prior to this I would get real naseaus real fast. The AMOUNT that I get full from is far, far smaller than it used to be. It WILL take some control after you reach this point but the control is much easier, I used to just lust after food constantly, now I just get a bit peckish and it only takes a few bites to satisfy.

I am a year out, and I would say I get a normal full feeling.

Still, I find that I need to give myself a bit of time to recognize that full feeling. When eating, I tend to stop for a bit and let my stomach process what is in there. This helps keep me from eating too much. I don't stop for a long time, but I will put my fork down and talk a bit more and let my stomach adjust for a minute or two. It helps me figure out if I should take another bite or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
