Oh goodness. My surgery is Sept. 13th. I went to the pre-surgery class on Tuesday and I gained 5 lbs. from the day I saw the surgeon. I have exactly one week to lose the 5 lbs. otherwise they will cancel the surgery. The pressure is on. I started having 2 Protein Shakes and a small salad for lunch and lots of Water and hot tea (still sick I caught bronchitis). And I will start the back at the gym today. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I can't believe they're forcing you to drop the five or else cancel surgery???

I agree... losing the 5 lbs should not me the issue. The main reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver to prepare you for the surgery.

Hang in there. Sure hope it goes well for you.

goodluck, i think you are on the right track.

I would probably focus on the liquid diet (the shakes and small salad like you mentioned) and not the exercise, because exercise will make you build muscle, and muscle will show up on the scale!

Last time I did a liquid diet i lost 11lbs the first week so hopefully you will have the same result! !

Right? I dropped the 10 lbs. the dr. originally wanted me to lose, then I gained 5 of them back. All I can do is hope that I drop them 5 lbs. in a week. I know when I get stressed it's harder to lose weight.

Thanks everyone. I hope I can do this. I am already feeling lightheaded as I am diabetic and can feel my bs drop. I am thinking I should probably email my dietitian and see what she suggest.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
