Food Tastes Changed

Recommended Posts

I've heard lots of people say that after surgery, their tastes changed. Sometimes a food they liked before, they don't like anymore or vice versa. Has anyone ever heard WHY tastes change? I know mine certainly have, I'm just not sure why.

I don't think so. For example, Decaf tea with Splenda. I drank that before and liked it. Now it just tastes really, really bitter.

Hmmmm. So far have not found that anything tastes different. It still tastes the same to me. I wish cakes, Cookies, candy, chocolate and chips tasted disgusting to me, but no such luck!!!!!

My tastes have changed significantly. I'm 14 months post op. I love spicier and spicier food, hot sauce, etc. A total reversal. Wierd.

I am two months out. It is true. Your taste changes. First month is bad. Second month gets better. This 8th week is being great. A was 247 pounds and now I am 198 pounds. I can eat almost any thing. But I don't like food containing fat like pizza, I can't eat chesse any more. It's easier now to eat meat. But i am really happy with the sleeve. I really recomend it. ( pardon my English. I am from Mexico. )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
