Stomach Pain

Recommended Posts

I've been having pain in my left upper abdomen since surgery (3weeks ago). At first I just thought it was normal and talked with my surgeon about it on my 1 week follow up appointment and he gave me Hyoscyamine for cramps. That worked in the beginning and the cramping went away. The second week I thought it was just the muscle healing but now I'm in my third week and it's getting worse not better. Very tender over my stomach and constant ache to that part of my abdomen. I've only been able to tolerate pureeds and only 4-6oz. I thought maybe it was to much and I went back to full liquids for a couple of days and even decreased my portions but the discomfort has never subsided. I even went to Clear Liquids today but no relief, still pain. I left a message with the office this morning at 9:30 with the nurse but no one called me back. I just paged the surgeon because I'm concerned that I still have pain and he asked why I didn't call the office today since he was there and I said I did but no one returned my call. Very frustrating!! He told me to come in to the office in the morning to be seen but I have to see the other surgeon since he will be in surgery, ugh! Sorry for the long post but I'm getting discouraged :(

Do whatever you need to do to find out what's up and get treatment.

Regardless....you need to be seen! Just remember, nothing lasts forever. You will be ok. Just do what you can to be seen! Will be saying prayers!

I had pain for weeks on both my sides but mainly the left side. It would come and last for days then go away for a day or two then come back. My surgeon told me she had to stitch up some muscles and that was it. The more active I became (walking) the more the pain would come back until finally healed and is gone for good.

Good luck!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
