Hey guys have any of you suffered from boils!? And how did that affect your surgery and healing?

I always had boils prior to surgery. However, since surgery, I hadn't had as many breakouts. Didn't really think about it until I saw your thread on the subject! How bout yourself? What did/do you do to treat them?

Are they in your underarms and/or upper thighs? If so, you may have Hidradenitis Suppurativa. One of the aggravating factors with this condition is obesity, so you may see some improvement with your weight loss. If that isn't what you have, disregard this! :)

Hi laurenss, mine were/are in my underarms/upper thigh areas and buttocks. Just not as often as before surgery. Any suggestions on how to treat?

So I just posted a big ol' reply and somehow lost it. Sounds like it might be what you are dealing with. Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a disease that affects the apocrine sweat glands. It typically affects underarms and upper thighs, but can be in other places too. It is aggravated by obesity and stress affects it too. Unfortunately, it is not curable, but it can go into remission. It is a relatively unknown disease. A lot of people don't even know they have it. If you google it, you will learn lots. I see a dermatologist who gave me some creams (help minimally) and offered antibiotics if it gets severe (which it hasn't). When I feel a boil coming on, I can go see her and she will inject it with something that makes it go away pretty quickly (the shot doesn't hurt, but I scared the first time!). Best of luck to you.

Do you mean with my incisions? I did not. Oh, wait, I did have some slight pinkness around one incision after about a week. I got an antibiotics right away and it was better in a day or two. Otherwise, I'm doing great.

the only problem im having with incisions is that a couple of them have started to keloid (sp?) on me. Being AA, i've had this skin issue with other past surgery scars

Hi Lauren,

My daughter suffers horribly with HS. Any idea what those shots are? We're constantly trying new things to help her. Thanks

Hmm, I really don't remember. Haven't had one in a long time. I know you have to get it at the first sign of a boil. I believe it may have been some sort of steroid (an anti-inflammatory). I will look for an old office receipt to see if it says what it was. Sorry to hear about your daughter. It can be very hard to live with, especially for young ones. Best of luck!

Just did a quick google search and it looks like cortisone (steroid) injections are used by a lot of folks. It really is the only thing that has stopped a sore in it's tracks for me.

Hi! I too suffer from Hidradenitis Suppurativa. I have it pretty bad under my arms, breasts and in my groin. I have tried everything from my dermatologist but nothing really helps it. I've been dealing with this since I was 13 (I've also been overweight my entire life). I'm hoping this surgery helps with my HS because some days the pain is unbearable!

yikes i hate to hear this stuff, please seek medical help with a board cert dermo. almost all boils go mrsa these days nothing to mess with, the drug they inject for swelling in solu-cortef, and or solumedrol. yes they work but the infection stays longer and is harder to treat. washing with hibeclens does help, you cant use it on your face or privates. good luck

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
