Sugar Free Free.

Recommended Posts

I've decided that just about everything sugar-free makes me nauseous. I hate all things SF/FF anyway. Low-fat? Sure. Depending on the food. I'm steering clear of "no sugar added" and all that jazz as well. Not good for the body, especially the gastrointestinal tract. Face it, any fake sugar in large quantities is going to wreak havoc just as real sugar does in large quantities. I hate the whole chemical aspect when I'm trying to be as organic as possible. Stevia is bitter, and has an awful after taste. I think I'm just going to limit my real sugar intake! Sorbitol, sucralose, I'm done with you!!

Do these things bother anyone else? I just can't do it anymore, and I'm only a month out. Feeling sick is not cool.

I know personally Sorbital does a number on my stomach!! It's horrible... Can you tolerate sugar? So I've been told sleevers don't usually dump... I know I have a problem with some no sugar added foods.

I'm able to tolerate sugar, in small doses...just like everything else, I suppose!!! To me, every person is going to be different. Just because I can tolerate sugar doesn't mean that that's all I will eat (I know how some people get around here...)

aspartame, sucralose, splenda and etc are terrible for your body... so good for you!

you should try Swerve. it's made from fruit Fiber & doesn't have a bitter aftertaste, like stevia.. it's not a chemical thing like aspartame/sucralose/splenda/etc.. http://www.swervesweetener.com/ also... ZERO CALORIES!!!!!!!!! LOW GLYCEMIC!!!!!

from their website:

Swerve is a great-tasting, all-natural sweetener that measures cup-for-cup just like sugar!

Made from a unique combination of ingredients derived from the fibers of fruits and vegetables, Swerve contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives or flavors.

Forget low calorie sweeteners; Swerve is zero-calorie, non-glycemic and safe for those living with diabetes. Human clinical trials show that Swerve does not affect blood glucose or insulin levels.

With its great taste and superior functionality, Swerve is the ideal sweetener for sugar-free baking and cooking. Many people ask if Swerve is stevia. Swerve does not contain stevia or lo han guo. Unlike other natural sweeteners that have a bitter aftertaste, Swerve tastes remarkably like sugar and has a clean, sweet taste.

alternately, you could try using things like brown rice Syrup, agave nectar and the like. agave nectar dissolves into cold drinks, like iced tea for example..

I HATE artificial sweetners too!! I really tried to "like" crystal light but it is nasty. I am pre-sleeve but am looking at ways to bypass all artificial sweeteners. I want to try "fruit infused water" and I will be juicing some. ON the juicing, primarily greens with a few low glycemic fruits (don't want to hijack the thread with freak outs that I am going to juice, I will watch the carbs and sugars.. ) Agave nectar is what i try to use.

All that fake crap gives me bathroom problems. Plus I think fake sweeteners make me crave more sweet stuff. I have been enjoying fruit infused waters and fruit flavored herbal iced teas (non sweetened). My fav is berry Zinger (acai, blackberry and pomegranat)- I have a full pitcher in the fridge most of the time.

Check out a product called whey Low. It a natural sweetner that is made from milk sugars & fruit sugars. They guarantee it to taste exactly like sugar, but only has 1/4 the calories. I haven't tried it yet but the only bad reviews I could find on it were from people that never tried it.

Artificial sweetners make my joints hurt! I don't know if anyone else has this problem but any time I eat or drink something with it my joints tell me shortly after.

That is likely Aspartame. There have several studies that show that side effect.

I have tried NOW brand Better Stevia. It is a liquid form and I have not had any experience with it being bitter. Swerve is an Erythritol sweetener, which is a type of sugar alcohol, but it is not suppose to give the tummy troubles and I have read good things about it.

And just an FYI, even with the sleeve you can dump. It is not common, but it can happen.

If its not natural I don't use it. I stay away from all things artificial and fat free, etc., why? Because its horrible for ur liver. I actually broke my first stall by giving up artificial sweeteners and low fat things. Artificial things clog up ur liver and makes it harder to digest. If its not stevia I don't use it ;). I do use some sf Creamer in my coffee but that's all, and it's not a bad habit.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
