Hello All!

I've been reading the many different threads and posts here in this forum for a couple of weeks and have learned quite a bit from you all.

I had a call from the office of the Dr. I met with regarding getting banded today - they submitted everything to my insurance company today for approval.

I hear I am fortunate because I have United HealthCare and they are fairly good about approving this procedure. But, am still anxious to hear from them. Does anyone know how long they typically take to send out their approval or denial?

Well, keep your fingers crossed for me!

I look forward to learning more from all of you, and hopefully joining the ranks of those who have been banded.

Audrey :)

welcome, I live in Elko Nevada. Just 250 miles west of you in interstate 80. I can't help you with the insurance question part though because I was self pay. Just wanted to welcome you.

Hi Audrey!

I'm in Salt Lake too...my surgery is scheduled for Oct 5 with Dr. Hansen. I have Aetna (managed care, not HMO) and they approved my in about 2 1/2 weeks after eveything was submitted. I submitted as much info as possible because I was so afraid of a denial. I was surprised how fast it was! I've heard United Health Care usually covers lap-band here in Utah. Good luck!

Thanks for the kind welcomes everyone.

Jessica - I met with Dr. Alldredge who is Dr. Hansen's partner. Best of luck to you in this journey! I'd love to hear how everything goes for you.

Thanks again!

Audrey

Audrey

I had my surgery with Dr. Hansen a year ago. He's great and the staff is exceptional!

Well, I'm not a very patient person. I know that Dr. Alldredge's staff just faxed the information over to United HealthCare on Tuesday - but it's Friday and I just had to call to see if United HealthCare had made a decision yet.

They have - I've been approved! WooHoo!

So, I am scheduled for surgery on 10/23. I can hardly wait!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
