Emotional Process!

Recommended Posts

I thought the emotional part was making the decision to have surgery. But the roller coaster ride with insurance is making me crazy! Denied but not really, now pending is wearing me out!! I am sure this is normal but it's to much!!!

I totally feel you. I had nothing but issues with insurance before and was able to switch fortunately. It is very stressful dealing with insurance issues. All I can say is hang in there! I never really knew how strong and determined I was until I found myself fighting no matter what to get this surgery. It will all be worth it in the end (((hugs))) Keep your head up!!!

I reached a point with the claims people at my insurance where I told the lady " well I hope you guys determine my life is worth the financial burden and you approve me."

Not my best moment but oh how I hate that they get the final say in who is worth helping and who isn't. Or weather or not you have been fat enough for long enough.

It is sad that insurance has such say in saving our lives. So 20,000 now or unknown amounts for heart attack or stroke and the continued decline of our health. I was finally approved yesterday. But it was an exhausting process. I was calling insurance twice a day. I must have finally gotten on there nerves.

There are millions of people around the world who can't even get basic healthcare so all in all it's not so bad.

But for those of us paying these crazy insurance premiums, deductibles, copays, out of pocket expenses should have more say in what we get. Some deuce in an office shouldn't be the final verdict in how we choose to use these services we pay for.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
