Always Cold...

Recommended Posts

Yes I'm getting cold even with 30 lbs lost. My DH said to me before surgery that he couldn't wait until I lost some weight so I would be cold as well. He says we keep our house too cold. Now I won't admit I'm cold, but you can see me running around the house with my socks on and a throw blanket around me on the couch. :) I do have thyroid problems, but I take a pill each day. My tests just came back OK so it is the weight loss that is making the difference.

Want to hear a funny story?

A number of years ago, DH insisted I see the doctor because he was sure there was something seriously wrong with me - like anemia. So off I went to our old country doctor (lived in Mineola, TX at the time - population 4,000).

I told him why I was there - husband made me come in because I'm so cold all the time.

He looked my chart over....and asked me, "When was the last time you had intercourse?"

I just sat there....thinking....okay, I'm not a doctor, but????

Finally, I said, "What does that have to do with anything?"

The good doctor said, "It has everything to do with treating frigidity."

"FRIGIDITY?????? Good Lord, I'm not frigid....I'm just cold."

Haha Carlene! Talk about miscommunication..

Yep, I am a cold one. I used to be a hot one. Now, I have no insulation and have REALLY become a member of my family. They have always been cold, even in the summer. Now, I am one of them!!!

I am always cold now. Since the day I was banded I have been. I was told it is because we are not eating as much so our bodies are not consantly burning the calories. I guess that means our bodies are not having to work so hard all the time. I have never really believed the thing about insulation because it is my skin that gets cold not whats inside. Just my opinion though. But I would much rather be cold then hot so its a plus for me.

I know where that is.. LOL

I grew up in Tyler. Mineola is a strange little town (no offense if you grew up there). lol My sister still lives there and I dunno how she stands it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
