Ok so now that I have my surgery date I'm getting super excited but the one thing I was told is no preop diet that I have to do. I am wondering if I should do one anyways to prepare for what's to come after surgery? Does anyone know someone who did not have to do one and did not ..I guess succeed...after surgery? I think that is my fear..failure.

I wasn't required to do any pre op liquid diets or anything. I'm doing just fine. Had my 3 month appointment today and I'm 70lbs down.

If you choose to diet prior to surgery that would be all the better to help mentally prepare you for what's to come once you're sleeved. It would also help reduce the size of your liver which would make the surgery easier for your Doctor because it would be easier to move it once they get inside you. And every pound you lose prior to surgery is one step closer to your eventual goal post sleeve.

I was not required to do a pre-op diet, and I did not do one. I am doing well and I'm on track for losing at a pace acceptable to my doc and to me. I have not had difficulty sticking to my post-op diet. I am 7+ weeks out. I think that coping with hunger and portion limitation would have been very difficult pre-op. I know the pre-op serves a valuable purpose for many but I was relieved not to have to do one and I trust my doc knew what he was doing not requiring one for me. I have had zero complications other than some weakness in the beginning due I'm sure to low calorie intake at first.

Good luck to you!

That is very reassuring! I was afraid that not doing one will cause set backs after surgery but hearing the both of you say u are fine after surgery is awesome. And I can't wait to be lighter 70lbs!

It depends on the surgeon and your weight. I am a lower BMI and my surgeon required a 2 week preop diet to shrink the liver. Every surgeon is different.

I'm not required to do a pre-op diet either. We did get a huge binder that mentioned a 2 week liquid diet but at the support group meeting everyone says that it's not required and when I met with the surgeon he didn't mention me doing a diet either before surgery. Supposedly they have us drink a clear liquid the day before surgery and this will help flush out our intestines but that's pretty much it. I'm happy about not doing the liquid diet because my blood sugar dips a lot, plus I need energy from food in order to deal with my 3 crazy kiddos.

I am the same size as you, my doctor requires a hybrid diet. Daily, I can have 2 Protein shakes, 2 servings skim milk, 1 serving of fruit, 1 Protein Bar and a light dinner (no carbs). It has been tough, but I know that every pound I lose before surgery is one less I have to lose after surgery.

I am glad he requires this, otherwise I know I would have "pigged out" and gained weight prior to surgery.

When is your surgery?

I actually know a couple of people who pigged out before their surgery and that is what I plan on not doing. My surgery is scheduled for 9/21. When is urs?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
