I just had my Lap band removed last month and I have already gained 7 lbs. Its almost as if your stomach doesn't know when to stop eating because the band is no longer there.

I had my band for 2 years, only lost 20 lbs and I am having the sleeve done on Oct. 1st. If i was able to do this on my own I would...but I have tried and I can't. I hope this helps and good luck to you.

I waited about nearly 3 months between the band removal and the sleeve surgery. My stomach became a bottomless pit. My hunger went through the roof. I went to a specialist who put me on a high protein/low carb diet that had many items as unlimited portions. That stopped the weight gain, but I am sure I could have put on 20# in those 3 months without doing some kind of regimen because I was genuinely hungry much of the time.

I just had my band removed.... I had a slip and only lost 40lbs in the last 18 months...

I suggest trying to do it on your own for 1month. Put yourself on a 1200calorie diet. High Protein, low carbs, little to no sugar.... That's what I did for my pre op diet for the sleeve and I dropped 11lbs....

Good luck!

I had my band for 4 years and in the 5 months I've had it out, I've gained 20 pounds. I gained 25 during the unfill. The first several months I gained constantly with no explanation. Having the band your metabolism adjusts based on what you are intaking. Once it's not there, you metabolism has to readjust. I'm only gaining minimally now, but still gaining. You need to decide what is best for you long term. I've tried to do this myself for 25 years. I hope to have my sleeve in December. Best of luck to you!

Glad the lap band worked so well for you! What a huge accomplishment! I think that you will find that most who have had the band removed have gained weight....myself included. While you could put yourself on a low calorie diet and potentially hold off the weight gain do you think that you could do it on your own indefinitely? Speaking for myself only, that is why i had to have the band in the first place and why i converted to the sleeve when the band failed. If you can see obesity as a disease than the lapband was to the obesity as the pacemaker is to the heart.

Congrats on your weight loss with the band! I started at 415 pounds (my highest weight was 435) and I know how it feels to be scared to go back there!

So glad I found this section of the forum. I'm in the same boat. I had my band for less than a year and major slip and it was removed. I did lose 128 pounds in that time. I went from 415 to 287! I thought I could do it without help, but like you all say, I could never feel full. I gained between 20-30 pounds and have been hovering in that area since May. I finally broke down and saw my surgeon and will be doing the sleeve. Would love to keep in touch to see how it goes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
