moon goddess I started back up Monday. I found that I got tired really fast. I am not sure if it is from healing of if it is from the lower amount of calories. But yesterday was better and today was better yet so don't get discouraged if you feel wore out cause it will get better each day.

Just got my band on Monday from Dr. George Fielding at NYU Medical Center. I must say, I had worse experiences at the dentist. No problems, very little pain and I was on the treadmill tonight. Would appreciate any feed back from anyone as well as advice for the next few weeks.

Thanks Jodi~T!

The good thing is that there are only two days left of the week, so at least I can have the weekend right around the corner. I don't have a lot to do beyond paperwork at the desk, so it shouldn't be too hard!

Hi guys!

I hope all is well! I'm back on my feet again and tonight I'm feeling really good. To be honest, I was so nervous about the actual surgery that I didn't think about the recovery. This is all so new to me!

So I was the first surgery scheduled on Monday, 10/23. I arrived at 6am for a 7:30 procedure. Boy was I nervous. There was another girl who got weighed in at the same time as me and she was the second surgery of the day... turns out, she was to be my recovery roommate! Well, some of my fears were put aside when I found out that I had lost 23 lbs in my 2 week pre-op diet. As soon as they told me, I hugged, kissed and said good bye to my boyfriend. I was terrified of the surgery and remember my eyes were starting to tear up as I was walking with the nurse to the OR. I quickly regained my composure thinking that it wouldn't make ANYbody's job easier if the patient was all weepy!

When I walked into the OR I was surprised at how many people were in there. It was about 7:20am and they were laughing and joking around with me. The anesthesiologist was great and really helped to put my mind at ease... I remember them putting an IV in my hand and remember the big BIG lights in the OR. And that's all I remember. The next time I'm awake I'm in the PACU in some pretty decent pain. They gave me morphine to help with the pain and it kicked in shortly. My boyfriend came to see me and they brought me up to my recovery room.

Throughout the day I felt pretty darn awful. For one, my upper back felt like it had been slammed with a baseball bat. Second, the dreaded gas pain in my left shoulder was pretty bad. Third, never having had anesthesia or morphine left me a basket full of nausea. I literally turned green and started to throw up at two different times that night. We managed to calm it with deep breathing and all that came out of me was the spit/saliva you get when you're about to throw up. The 2nd time I heaved but there was nothing. Because of the nausea, I wasn't allowed any ice chips or Water because they didn' want anything in my stomach. It also meant they wouldn't give me any pain medication aside from the pain reliever/anti-inflammatory (toradol.) After the 2nd time of near-puking, it magically went away. They came by with some crushed up percocets and I started feeling better.

I ended up having to spend the night in the hospital. My roomate was able to go home at 6pm (god bless her!) I ended up getting a new roommate who was a smoker and was hacking all night. It was pretty gross, I thought she was going to cough up a lung (or a band!) and had to plug my ears. Anyway, I was released in the AM and my BF brought me home.

Day 2 was still pretty rough on me although I slept through the night. I took some liquid tylenol PM felt pretty comfortable in my position. Day 3 - I woke up this morning in some pain and slept on and off for the next few hours. I decided to make it a lazy day and that was a mistake. I was too tired to do anything but lay in bed but my Dr. office says "bed is your enemy after surgery." I got up and went for a walk to the post office and came back tired but in good spirits. I ended up straightening up my apartment for a bit and then watching some TV before my sis came over to take me to the store to pick up a new prescription. The Vicodin the prescribed me wasn't making me feel good and was hurting my stomach... they gave me percocet and I feel SO much better on it. If I tried to eat or drink anything with the Vicodin, my stomach would get this stabbing pain on my left side... not so with Percocet. But thing that's nasty is crushing them up into Water to take them *blech*

So, tomorrow is Day 4 and I'm sure it will be better than today. I thank god I came through it OK and that I have friends, family, and my friends on LBT to support me. I can't imagine having to go through this without this board!!! Good luck, guys!

question I hope I don't sound mean or rude. :omg: I just wanted to know if anyone else in the first two weeks have been hungry???? I was speaking to someone the other day that hasn't been banded but that will be soon Good luck to them. And I was telling them that I'm hungry SOMETIMES not always sometimes. They just kept going back and forth with me telling me that I wasn't drinking enough protean and I wasn't getting enough liquid. ANYHOW I said I was hungry but I think its more my mind telling me you need to eat because food wasn't going in my mouth but I had good nutrition so I would be find when I got to mushie food.

HELP tell me I'm not mean for thinking this. I'm sorry if it sounds mean I don't mean for anyone to get upset just that I need positive :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: suggestions not telling me that I'm drinking enough Thanks

Eileen:help: :help: :help:

I can't sleep. I should be because I have to be up in 5 hours to get ready. Today is the day. I guess I should at least try and sleep and quit reading posts on the computer. Good luck to everyone. I will post when I get back.

gbanita,Im hungry too. Your not alone.Remember healing stage!? I was hungry the day of the surgery in the recov. room! Not head hunger either my stomach was empty and rumbling. After they strarted allowing me broth an stuff at the hosp. I was ok and was ok on broth and stuff for the first week(still dreamt of solids though) 2nd week i felt like I was strving all of the time, yes real hunger pains almost non stop. Now into my 3rd week and much better because of mushies but if I dot stop myelf i would overeat. Dont forget your band isnt filled so yoour going to feel like eating like you did before so you need to imploy some good old fashioned will power until its time to get a fill.

I was banded on the 11th October ... I have been on fluids ... went onto Mushies on Monday ... yep today back on fluids for the next 24hrs. I went to the Doc and he gave me a fill. Has anyone else who had surgery this month had a fill yet. I was freaking out .. but it was so easy, not painful at all

Also I am 14kgs (about 30 pounds) down since the 29th September.

Cowgirl, wow that was vey fast. Did your doc explain why he was doing a fill already or is that normal practice for him? Im jelous! Most doc's have you wait 4-6 weeks.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
