October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I agree with Chrispygal...call your doctor's office to see what they would like you to do. If there is one thing that you learn really quickly on here is that every doctor has different requirements for his or her patients. For example, I didn't have to have a special pre op diet and that my only requirement before surgery was nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before.

However, my post op diet seems to be a lot more strict than a lot of the others I see here. The best thing is to follow what your doctor tells you to do. At least that's my opinion.

Tomorrow it will be one week post op for me. As of this morning, I am down 11# and going strong. :clap2:

Wow..I woke up during the night and can't sleep! *ugh!*

I'm in the same boat as you are. When I went in for my pre-admission testing I told the nurse and she said ask my PCP for Xanax!!! I was a little bit surprised how quickly she went the medicate route but oh well. I've actually been taking my Ambien CR but I have to call back the hospital and get the OK from the anesthesiolgist as I wasn't taking it when I saw him lst week.

Has anybdy else been taking it before or after the surgery? What did your dr and the anesthesiologist say about it?

Hey Purtynailz - I'm doing the same thing you are this week. Today is cleaning the house and tomorow is a pedicure and eyebrow wax!

I have gotten away from all that "girlie" stuff for too long. Between raising three small girls and being so heary, it just didn't seem worith it to put much effort into my appearance. BOY IS THAT GONNA CHANGE.

I had a jewelry party a week ago and got all kinds of jewelry I would never had worn before. I want to take much more pride in my appearance than ever before. Before I was heavy, my makeup was always done, my hair was styled, I was accessorized!!!! Now I just wear what fits. I wear the same couple of sweats and shirts over and over again. I just don't want to spend the $$ dressing this body;)

Does anyone else feel this way?

Best of luck to all who just got banded and those of you who go this week............Yeah!! The wait is over, God Bless.

My day is Thurs

Three Beauities, I think we are all in your letter somewhere. I know I am. But we are all soon starting a new life.

I am coming off all med's and I am very emotional, and I hate being that way. No hormones either. YUK. Thank you all for listening. Mary

What a difference a week makes! I had my surgery last Monday and I would never have guessed that I would feel this good in a week.

I added a few additions/comments to the shopping list below (in blue) based on my experience. I am sure others will be able to do the same.

Wow..I woke up during the night and can't sleep! *ugh!*

Post-op Checklists - Things to have before surgery.

<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->-------------------------------------------------------------------

lab-band shopping list:

heating pad

flexible ice pack

liquid tylenol (they make adult strength) They also make a really decent tasting (as far as liquid tylenol goes, anyway) vanilla flavored liquid tylenol PM. I took that religiously my first few days out of the hospital last week.

chewable or liquid gas-x They also make gas-x strips -- like the breath strips that you just lay on your tongue -- I went with that option.

a few books or movies

comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers) I just got a couple of 'old lady' housedresses. My daughter bought me a cute one in a lime green with pink flamingoes on it -- I would avoid anything with a waistband (even loose elastic) for as long as you possibly can.

squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt) A lifesaver!

a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days)

protien shakes

flavored Water

make sure you have a good blender

I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart)

broth or stuff to make broth

sugarfree popsicles and Jello

sugar free gum (ask your doctor)

sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor)

I would also add:

Chloraseptic strips. My throat was really scratchy after coming out of surgery -- it hit me more as the days went on -- and that helped to keep my throat from scratching and to keep me from coughing.

Toilet tools - Baby wipes and BBQ tongs. I laughed when I read about tongs on a prior list, but that extra extension really came in handy. (My kids were totally grossed out about the idea, but that's ok.) I bought mine at the dollar store and figure I'll toss them once I am feeling a little better.

A post hospital seated project - I bought my Christmas cards a few days before surgery and plan to work on them while I am home for a few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
