First I want to say congrats to all the new bandsters this week, and good luck to all of you preparing for next week! Day 2 of pre-op diet was ALOT better. But im not sure if its because my sinus/allergies are the cause but I have no appetite! Just thirsty because of the tylenol sinus meds. Just wanted to say thanks again for all of the support. October bandsters are AWESOME!

Welcome to our family!!! Good to hear that you are doing well. I was banded on 5th Oct, can't wait to get my staples out on the 14th - they itch like crazy. Apart from that, and a little tenderness around the port site, I am doing great with my new band. Today was the first day that it didn't feel uncomfortable at any stage when I could feel it.

I'll add your name to our roll-call (on the first page of this thread!

Thanks, Chrispygal!

I have been keeping mine pretty private, too, but I think I'll lean toward safety on this one. I have been looking online and there are lots of bracelets and watches that don't look like the clunky old ugly medic alert bracelets that spring to mind when someone mentions the subject.

There are actually a number of somewhat discreet and stylish options available.

Check out the following:

www.laurenshope.com

www.aboutmejewelry.com

http://www.rosemarybeads.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=9&zenid=556a7995a474075c856bfb5392415558

http://www.hahoriginals.com/catalog/default.php/cPath/64

http://www.milnejewelry.com/Doc_Tock/watch07.html

http://www.petitebaublesboutique.com/store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=MedicalIdAlertWatches

Right now I think I am leaning toward a watch. All of the private medical info will be on the inside and the medic alert symbol is on the clasp or on the face.

My family knows, but they are sworn to secrecy, so they will never tell. Most of my friends are polite enough not to ask. They didn't pry when I was having surgery -- they are just all there for me and being very supportive. I work with some really bold and nosy folks and if one of them asks me what that is for, I will just politely say, "It's kinda personal..." and leave it at that. It is none of their business, anyway. I love keeping them guessing...it drives them nuts!

There are a number of LBT threads on the subject - try a search for "medic alert"

Here's just a few thread links:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=22502&highlight=medic+bracelet

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=21625&highlight=medic+bracelet

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=19900&highlight=medic+bracelet

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=6942&highlight=medic+bracelet

I read on one LBT thread some advice from a paramedic that unless it is obviously a medic alert Bracelet / pendant, it probably won't get noticed in an emergency - let alone the wallet cards. If you want to be as safe as possible, choose one that is obviously a medic alert item. Just something to keep in mind while you are deciding what design to go for.

Kstar, are your pain killers not helping? I still cant lay on my left,(4 days banded) I probably could but it feels like I would disturb something. Im sure your going to start feeling less pain soon. Your only1 day out. I brought the heating pad to the hosp. but never used it. Ive read posts that the heating pad is for your shoulder pain and at the same time apply an ice pack to your stomache. That info came from a nurse on here. I found if I laid down in just theright position I felt less pain. For now just take it easy and dont do any jumping jacks:) However getting up for a little stroll in your room about once every hour will help with the gas and just to get things going. That helped. But more than anything just listen to your body, if your uncomfortable change position until you find a good one. You will have a much better night tonight!

Morning!

I've been noticing that a lot of people have been sleeping in their recliners. I don't have a recliner in my apartment so I was thinking about getting one of those husband pillows that I had back in college. For those of you who are banded, do you think it would help any or would it be just as good to prop up my regular bed pillows?

Thanks!

I just use regular pillows. If I position them right it feels great. You just need something for support if you are going to lay on your side. One word of advice, get some gas-x or Malox, you will need it.

Good Luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
