October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! Just wanted to check in and let you know that I am feeling great. I have been off pain medicine (even tylenol) for two days now. I still have some shoulder pain from the gas, and I am sore when I make sudden movements, but overall I am feeling great. If I could stomach the liquid tylenol I would probably take it because it would make me feel that much better. I may try and pick up some pills to crush in applesauce.

It has been an interesting week. I am hungry, yet I don't want to eat, yet I want to eat every thing I see on tv. lol. I had trouble yesterday getting down my liquids in the morning. I definitely had restriction. By the end of the day i loosened up a bit and did better. Today I am going to focus on getting in my Protein drinks because I haven't been too good with that. The good news - my scale says I am down 10lbs already. Don't I hope it's right! lol

I am thinking of all my fellow October Bandsters, and wish you all luck with your surgeries. Please post when you get home so we know how you're doing.

Oh, and threebeauties, I have only told my immediate family and my close friends as this is my support system. They have been great, and very supportive.

Good job with the liquid diet Moon Goddess. It is tough! These next few days will fly by for you, and you will soon be joining us in band land! Congrats!

Hello. I am new, actaully i have been reading this site for awhile but just joined. I had my pre op on the 2nd and now am doing the liquid diet.

I have my sugery on the 12th in Virginia

I paid for it myself, ugh.

Everyone in my family (who are all thin) are behind me in this journey. I am 32 and very active. I am 6ft tall which gives me an odd shape to have so much weight.

I loof forward to your support and being able to support others in the future.

Chrispy - It's great to hear how well you're doing! Talk about encouragement!!!

You know, I don't even own a scale and am debating about even getting one. I usually use the one at the gym but I think I will for the fact that I’d like to know my progress in between my visits… I start pre-op on Monday morning and will weigh myself that morning when I get out of bed.

<O:p

You know, I’m so tired of this last supper crap! My friends keep wanting to take me out for my “last” big meal. I try to explain to them that I can still go out with them but I’ll just be ordering differently… and not consuming 4 mojitos! J Last night I went to Whole Foods and got some roasted brussel sprouts and a grilled chicken breast and just enjoyed a quiet healthy dinner at home. It was refreshing and satisfying and made me feel good about myself and my new direction! <O:p

<O:p

So, good luck to all of us and have a GREAT weekend!<O:p</O:p

I started my 1-week pre-op lo-carb, liquid diet today. My wife is making my life easy by doing it with me.

Surgery is scheduled for Friday, October 13...and am I ever ready!

As for telling people, I have told my family, my boss (also a very good friend) and 2 friends. My family is supportive, my boss is curious and supportive and the other 2 friends say don't do it (out of concern for complications). My wife has that gene that requires her to tell everyone with whom she speaks. Her telling prople doesn't bother me because I truly do not care what anyone thinks about it. This is about my life and my health. Period. End of story.

Had my "last supper" last night at Morton's. Monster steak, crabmeat cocktail, chocolate chocolate cake with ice cream. Got it out of my system. Today I love Protein drinks and low carb milk and I feel great about the future. I can't remember the last time I was so excited about anything.

I didnt tell my family until the last minute... the night before my pre op... all of them are thin, so it is difficult to talk to them about my eating problems. But they were SO supportive. I forget sometimes how great all of them really are. !!

I told three of my friends who are all nurses to get their opinion. Also one may be a nurse on the surg floor the day or surgery so i didnt want to scare her when they wheeled me in! Not sure if they are telling folks or not, 2 of them are non stop talkers. I think I will be more likely to be open about it once i am able to SHOW people why i chose this route. ;)

Good luck Pug Master.~! See you on the other side!!

I was banded on the 3nd by Dr. Reinke in St Petersburg, FL. I know things are sore but all in all I feel pretty good! Just need to learn to slow dorn when I drink. I keep getting the feeling of needing to burg. Anyone else have that after the band was placed??

Slocumna, I definitely had the sensation to burp and still do. It comes and goes. I think it is probably still the gas trying to escape from the body. From what I'm told it should suside soon. Glad to hear you are doing well!

October 26th is my big day. I can't wait!!!! I have not told very many people about the surgery. I have a 15 year old that doesn't need to know for several reasons. He probably won't keep his mouth shut because he won't think it is a big deal. Plus, I don't want him knowing that I am keeping a secret. I have family that just thinks you can push away from the table and it is all fine. Whatever. Some people just don't understand what it is like to be overweight and unhappy. I am going to be so much happier. I am so excited. It is going to be a whole new world. My self esteem especially.

I love reading these posts. (I read much more than I post.)

Hi All,

Well here I'am banded and 3 days out everything is going well. I had very little pain, and my surgeon even gave my husband pictures of the band in place. I'm eating chocolate pudding, tea, creamed Soups and oatmeal. I have lost 12 lb since going on my pre-op liquid diet about 2 weeks ago.;)

Hi Lin - CONGRATULATIONS!!! I can only imagine how excited you must be to start your journey to health. How are you feeling? Do you think you'll be able to go back to work 5 days post op? How are you resting at night? Are you taking walks? How much did you weigh when you began if you dont' mind me asking. Did you have trouble with trapped gas in your chest and shoulders? Sorry for all of the questions. Oh, and are you taking a Protein supplement? I read that is crucial to prevent Hair loss as well as muscle loss. Ok, I'll stop now. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I can't wait. I'm not scheduled yet, just had the medical director review my file and then it will be submitted to insurance for approval. . .we'll see. ;)

Jules,

Dr. Rodriguez in Acuna will also be doing my surgery...14 more days...October 20th. I am really getting excited. I started my pre-op today. I am ready for this change in my life. I am sick and tired of always feeling sick and tired! I have only told a few people about my surgery. I've talked to 2 friends at work about it. One is excited for me, and the other thinks I am absolutely crazy for going to Mexico. I am still debating whether to tell my parents about it, because I'm afraid their response will be negative about me going to Mexico. My hubby is so supportive!! He has loved me more than I deserve, and definitely more than I have loved myself the last few years.

Good luck on the 26th.

Hi all,

Just a quick note (it hurts to sit at the desk! LOL!) to let you know that I'm home. Thanks for your messages and good wishes.

I just got home from hospital. I ended up staying two nights - I had low blood pressure and pain issues. My surgery all went well, although my recovery is taking a little longer than I thought it would. For now, I am just happy it's over, and that I'm now "in the band"!!! I am also grateful to have you all here at LBT to talk with about it. It's nice to know that you're not the only one walking along this road.

I have been nauseous, and I am struggling to drink anything other than Water, although am hungry. I threw up on peppermint tea in the hospital - so be carfeul if you drink that stuff! I have had a little apple juice, Soup and some sustagen so far over the last couple of days, but not much yet at all.

Anyway, that's it for today, I'll catch up with all of our posts and updates our surgery list over the next few days when I'm feeling better. Thanks again for your good wishes and prayers.

Anna.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
