Company In The Hospital?

Recommended Posts

My husband was halfway around the world working when I had my surgery, but my parents were there during and after the surgery. My brother came and stayed the night that night when my parents left. Support is extremely important. I was in pain and the nausea was horrendous! I never vomited, just constant terrible heaving and nausea. It was very nice that there was someone there just to hand me a cold cloth to lay over my neck and wipe my mouth, call for the nurse if needed, cheer me on when it was time to walk when all I wanted to do was sleep. You really should consider having someone there before, during, and after the procedure. Before the procedure you will need the emotional support because its possible you will be nervous.

Hi,

I'm so worried about nausea after the surgery. Did they give you anything to help the nausea? I'm dreading it!

The surgeon prescribed a scopalomine patch 2 days pre-op (but it was horribly drying) & the anesthesiologist gave me Decadron during the surgery, which seemed counter-intuitive since that is a powerful steroid. Post-op was given Phenergan IV in the hospital & chewable Zofran for home. I think the Pepcid 2x a day & ginger tea helped me most.

I wasn't much fun in the recovery room, but my family was there all through my surgery. My husband was there that whole time and with me a lot of the time in the room walking with me and keeping me company.

He's done this with two surgeries now. I thanked him for being there on more than one occasion and he looks at me like I I'm nuts and says, "Where else would I be?"

I never had nausea or any pain meds after the one hit of morphine that I mistakenly pushed the button for. It's a crap shoot I guess, but compared to the two open abdominal surgeries I had, this was a cake walk.

Dana, yes they gave me something for the nausea, I was maxed out on Zofran and Phenergan, plus they put the patch on me before surgery to help prevent the nausea. im sure it helped, it just didn't seem like it at the time. I was miserable! I have to say though, that was the only time I ever wondered, why did I do this to myself?! Other than soreness and minimal pain after 24 hours, it has pretty much been smooth sailing. If I never lost another pound, I would still have this surgery 100X over for the results I have gotten in just a little over 4 months. It is totally worth 24 hours of pure misery! Good Luck!!!

We actually left and went to Dallas the day before Isaac hit because we knew we'd be without power. We stayed with friends and made sort of a vacation out of it. The power was out until Saturday but we stayed the until Monday. We made out really well. Just a little Water under the front door which kind of ruined our wood floors and some fallen tree branches. The hurricanes and evacuations are just a fact of life around here!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
