My doctor typically does a "23 hour stay." I think it has something to do with the accreditation of the surgery center, since it's not a full fledged hospital. However, shortly before I had surgery I was told he started letting patients go home at 8pm... IF their pain was below a 5, they had been walking, lived within an hour and something else. I met the criteria but I chose to stay the night. I was trying to avoid more time spent at my parents'. lol But I left first thing the next morning. I told them since I was self-pay I wanted to get my money's worth and would only leave if they gave me a discount!

6 days in hospital for me....had severe pain, nausea & excess bleeding. Im grateful that I have a doctor who allowed me to to be pain free and tolerate liquids at my own pace. Each day she came in, we discussed my complications; as I started feeling so-so to better, she would ask if I was ready to go home and then inject her advice on staying another night. The person who was more anxious to leave was my hubby...he spent every night with me...on that uncomfortable cot the hospital provided!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
