Hello again from North Carolina

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say hi and reintroduce myself. I am not really a newbie. I was posting earlier this year with the hopes that my insurance would pay for my surgery. I found out that my UHC plan wouldn't cover it and I basically put the thought out of my head.

I have now decided to save up and finance the surgery myself. I really didn't think of this as being an option @ all before. I have been saving and I think after tax time that I should have enough to do the surgery. The $$ could surely go to other ways (family, etc.), but I see this as my last resort. Either way the $$ would go to good use.

Anywho, I pretty much see that I will have to do the surgery in Mexico, b/c that is the only way I can afford it. My family and friends will probably have a cow when they find this out. I have really only started researching this as an option a few days ago. I still have @ least 3 months away to completely decide doctors, etc and to research everything.

I have gotten a lot of information on hear and would love to talk to people about their experiences with the lapband and surgery in Mexico.

Thanks!!!:)

Hi and welcome back! I was not banded in Mexico, but thought I would poke my head in and give you a shout "hello" anyways. I was self-pay, we refinanced the house to pay for my surgery. I will never regret it either.

Hi to both of you. Thanks so much for replying.

The Best Me- I will try to look up some info on Dr. Kuri. Do you have a website anything? I have mostly been hearing about Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Rumbault in Mexico. How were you experiences with Dr. Kuri?

Susan- I am a grad student, so I am using my student loans to finance the surgery. I should have the rest of the $$ needed in January.

From your stats, both of you seem to be doing very well.

Thanks again for replying!!

Skye, Dr Kuri's site is www.beliteweight.com

I'm a very happy Kuri patient. I think (my opinion) you have narrrowed it down to the top 3 in MX.

I can't for the life of me rememebr Ortiz' web addy. If you want it I can find it for you...gimme a shout. I can get you Rumbaut's too, with some digging! Anyhow, I don't hesitate recommending Dr Kuri. He's wonderful.

I will starting researching Dr. Kuri now. I have seen some others on here mention him as well...

I have Dr. Ortiz' website. I should be able to do a search for Rumbaut.

Another doctor I have seen mentioned a lot is Dr. Arturo Rodriguez. So, I guess I will check him out too...

I might have some more questions on Dr. Kuri once I do more research.

Thanks so much!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
