Hey guys....I'm 5 days post op and have a large lump on my left arm where one of the iv's were contacted. Its very puffy, a lot of heat in it. I remember they flushed it with Water a few times, maybe its a build up of Fluid? I'm just worried its infected due to the heat in it and soreness, its no bigger but was worried...anyone have this? Should I ask my normal Dr for some anti biotics or talk to surgeon?

Thank you!

If its warm to touch and swollen it maybe a DVT I would get to the ER ASAP

Really? I'm not very educated in dvt and for some reason thought it only effected the legs...just called my surgeon, will hear back shortly and go from there...the ER here is as useful as fine bone china at a tea party for drunken elephants lol.

Hot to touch is a huge sign of infection, the swelling can be normal healing but I wouldn't risk the heat... If you cant get into surgeon asap then Just see a regular dr to start with ASAP, they can check for other signs of infection like swollen lymph nodes etc

You can def get a DVT in your arm. The ER will be able to do a Doppler and at least rule DVT out

Yes I'm sure there is an infection of some kind. Dr I trust has left for the day , will see her in the morning. Waiting for surgeons phone call, if he sounds concerned at all, ER it will be straight away

Thanks me too...having freak outs now lol. Over analysing every part of my body and how I'm feeling lol. The thing that has me confused is my wrist was like this when I left hospital so I thought nothing of it...I hope they will fix me.

A girl on here, her user name is Leskra, she had that and it was a blood clot.

Please consult your Dr and get it checked ASAP.

Best wishes

Just spoke to surgeon. He said it is a clot but not a life threatening one. It should clear up but if not in the next few days get some anti biotics to stop any infection spreading. It was caused by the vein being traumatised with the iv...he seemed very relaxed so that made me feel good.

I would still want it checked. Heat is not a good sign. Sending healing prayers your way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
