When Will I Stop Regretting Having This Done?

Recommended Posts

UPDATE: I had an X-ray the other day. Barium of course and i puked it all up. But it showed that my sleeve is extremely tight in one spot and that I have a hiatal hernia. They said that if it doesn't start to get better on its own that I may have to have bypass done. I am refusing to do that. I do not want the bypass. Help!!!

Why can't they balloon the area that is too tight (stricture?) and repair the hernia?? Second opinion.

Everyone struggles the first couple weeks to adjust. I think it takes between 4 and 6 weeks to accept and be happy with your decision. You are able to eat normally after several months. Not like you used to eat but what a normal person should eat. I am 6 months out and I have lost 100 pounds and I think God for my sleeve every day. :)

Hi Crystal,

Can you give me an idea of what your daily menus look like 6 months out? Can you eat most everything ( much smaller portions of course)? Are there any foods you cannot eat?

Thanks in advance!

I have struggled with "what did I do". My hair is falling out in clumps. I get enough Protein but I'm really struggling with getting enough fluids. Living in Denver with the altitude is tough if you are dehydrated. I usually don't realize how dehydrated I am until I'm dizzy, nauseous and almost pass out. Since losing weight, my blood pressure has dropped to a new low so that doesn't help along with the dehydration. A viscous cycle. I just wish I could drink larger volumes of Fluid again.

Skane10 are you currently on blood pressure medicine? i had to be taken off 2 months after my surgery. low blood pressure can cause sever fatigue. if you are on blood pressure medicine talk to your doctor about reducing the dose or discontinuing it all together.

Wondering why they did not see it when they did your sleeve or at least look to see?

The hernia? I have read that the surgery can cause them. Worst part about this is my surgeon is very well respected in the bariateix community.

My surgeon diagnosed my hiatal hernia when he did the EGD, so he was able to fix the hernia when he sleeved me. Your surgeon didn't require an EGD? If he didn't require one, why didn't he see the hernia when he sleeved you?

Well now you know why you are so sick. I guess if I was in your shoes I would ask if there is any other alternatives. If not then the bypass is not the route you wanted but I have talked to several people that have had one and love it. You can't undo your sleeve and if this will eliminate your feeling lousy might be worth consideration. You can't go on like you are. I would get all my info and second opinions but in the end you can't go on being sick forever. Get the worst case scenarios and then work towards quality of life. Just my 2¢.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
