I Need Help Please!

Recommended Posts

OK I went to Mexico to have my surgery and everything went great on June 5th. And I would not change one thing. But I found myself wanting to eat Snacks that are not healthy. I do try to get in 45-6o grams of Protein. I need to do better on my Water intake. Can someone who went to there regular doctor pass me on some good things to be doing. Or where I should be at or ask me questions so I can answer then to see where I'm going wrong. Please every one help me I'm all ears.. I hear alot of people talking about going to SAM'Sclub getting some healthy snacks... Please help me out.

Pooh, I buy Premier Protein bars at Sam's Club. I usually eat them for Breakfast and I will break one into pieces to use when the urge to snack hits me. The bonus is that they have 30 grams of Protein per bar... and I like that they have enough carbs to fuel a workout session!

Skip the unhealthy Snacks and train yourself to use food you should be eating as a snack. Carrot sticks, beef Jerky, sliced lunch meat and mini babybel cheese (much cheaper at sam's too) are my staples.

My surgery was June 19th, so I'm close to the same point as you. As a rule, I don't "snack"...at least not in the pre-surgical sense of the word. My typical day looks like this:

Breakfast (7-8am) - 16 oz chocolate Muscle Milk lite (200 calories, no sugar, and 30 grams protein)

late morning "meal" (10am) - 1/4 cottage cheese, or 2 oz tuna, or 2TBSP hummus and 6-7 baby carrots

lunch (noonish) - 1/4 cup fat-free cottage cheese (45 calories, 8 grams protein)

1/4 cup tuna salad (made with fat-free miracle whip) - 78 calories, 10 grams protein)

afternoon "meal" (3-4pm) - 8oz powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth (80 calories, 20 grams protein), or similar

dinner - 2 oz dense Protein ("meat") (between 50-80 calories, 6-10 grams protein)

1/4 cup veggies (next to no calories, no real Protein value...just for variety)

evening "meal" (8pm) - Gelatein 20 (high-protein "jello"...90 calories, 20 grams protein)

You'll see....I focus highly on protein, averaging between 75 and 90 grams per day. The more protein you consume, the "fuller" you will feel...particularly if you spread it out over the course of the day/evening. I keep my carbs below 30 grams/day, with rare exception. (And please don't panic...the things I listed out above are just an example of the variety of things I may eat, on any given day. The calories and protein intake run roughly the same, however, regardless of the actual combination I choose.) :)

Pooh, check with your local hospitals to see if there is a WLS support group that meets on a regular basis. We have one that meets once a month. Ours is pretty loose, so I imagine anyone could join, regardless of where they had their surgery. I find between this forum and that support group, I am able to stay more on track. They are a resource of a lot of good ideas and a good place to talk things out.

Snacking can be ok if your eating Proteins. I make my Snacks either cheese or nuts. I try to eat for nutrition. There are a few occasions where I will have something that is a carb, but I do it because I want to get my body out of ketosis. My mind gets fuzzy and my words sometimes come out wrong. I am working on eating healthy carbs now like fruits.

It is really easy to fall back into old patterns of eating from our past. So I work at keeping the junk food out of my house and eating small portions. I use special desert plates that are beautiful and only put in so much food, otherwise I could possibly eat too much. Those are my tricks that work for me most of the time. :)

Full disclosure: I do not do this myself. A woman in my support group has lost a great deal of weight. For her Snacks, she uses the various Vitamins and minerals we need to take. Some of them need to be spaced out anyway. I don't believe I would be able to do this, but thought I would throw it out there.

I like Greek Yogurt that is flavored. Healthy Choice now makes a 100 calorie pre-packaged frozen greek yogurt that is very yummy. I also like the Protein drinks. If you are craving something you can bite into, try Protein chips or Jerky. You can find a good selection of high protein food on sites like dietdirect.com.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
