I find this idea off-putting and slightly creepy. Why would you want to name your sleeve? It's not new, it's not a special friend or a cute fluffy pet, and it's certainly not a seperate entity. I hate when men name their d^cks and women name their boobs. It's still part of us. It's our stomach, it's just smaller and more normal sized now. What we had before was an endless abyss inside of us, or a monster that was always hungry. Surgery helped us out in desperation and made it so that we don't overeat. It's not cute. I find it embarrassing that I had no willpower before surgery; I hate the fact that my eating habits were so bad that I had to resort to this. I am very thankful that my stomach is now much smaller, but I won't be talking to it or petting it.

Ok. That's fair. This is just meant to be light and fun. Please forgive me for commenting that while you may not plan on talking to it, it will talk to you.

I can't agree with this more.

I am 1 week post op and it's been rough, but I am grateful and looking forward to seeing results. However, I am still embarrassed I needed to cut out my stomach before I could lose weight.

When I went for my preop appt, my surgeon comes in and goes "Are you excited???" like I was about to win a huge prize. It's kind of weird.

I understand, I may find it strange but if it helps people feel better about it then more power to them. I'm sorry if I offended you.

I am so excited I can barely stand it! A chance for a normal life! I'm downright giddy at the thought. There's actually a light somewhere in this dark tunnel through hell. Not a wide open door, but a hand reaching out to me to help. How could anyone not be excited?

Some people live life wayyyyyyyyy tooooo seriously. You only get one life, some of us now are getting a second chance to live the life that we always wanted, why not throw a little humor in it? I think it's awesome that people are naming thier sleeves. I get mine Friday morning and I'm still trying to come up with a good name, but this sleeve has changed and saved my life already! When I went for my endoscopy they were able to find a polyp that came back as a mass of neuroendocrine cancer! I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. I just wish I could come up with name for my sleeve to thank it.. Whether its a him or her.... I guess you don't really know until post op! Thanks for the giggles this morning! And to all you grumps.... Lighten up!!!!!!!

My surgeon did the same thing. I am excited about this chance to be healthy and look better. But this is not a door prize for sure. Anything worth it takes effort though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
