Yard Work And Cutting The Grass

Recommended Posts

How long after surgery were you able to do basic yard work like cutting the grass with a push mower?

I live in FL and assume I'll have to hydrate ahead of time, with breaks.

No chugging Water :(

I'm in Texas, so it's the same heat and humidity here. I was chain sawing 3 weeks post op, so I suppose I could have pushed a mower, but I have a zero turn.

But the real answer is....listen to your own body. Take it slower than you'd like too. Ease into it. Take breaks, take your time. If you can, plan to do the front one day, back yard the next day if you still feel okay. I think getting back into these activities can go a long way to making you feel better after surgery, so long as you don't do too much too soon.

That is true. Certainly can do some at dusk or cooler parts of the day. Hopefully by mid Oct it will be a little nicer outside. Thx.

Chain saw at three weeks post op is impressive!

Chain saw at three weeks post op is impressive!

Well, earlier this year we bought a house in the country on 4 acres. I worked hard to get it ready and get moved in before my surgery. We moved in on 5/1....the same day I started my preop liquid diet. That was not fun. Then had my surgery 5/10. The day I came home from the hospital, my 82 year old neighbor had a huge oak tree fall on the fence I just built, and there wasn't a thing I could do about it at the time.

After 3 weeks I felt well enough to get out there and start cutting it up.
