LaDwana 2 Posted September 2, 2012 what is heital hernia?
pinkiguana 12 Posted September 2, 2012 yes I was approved 100%. A hiatal hernia is found when you do an endoscopy (there are a barrage of tests you need to get, but they are covered by insurance and they ensure that you are healthy for the surgery) It is a ballooned out part of the gastric track due to too much weight in the mid section. Pregnant women get them all the time. It caused my heartburn. I did not know it was there until I got the endoscopy. Honestly, while I was tired, literally and figuratively, of being fat the 6 months was a good time for me to get adjusted and learn about the nutritional needs of my body pre and post surgery. Good luck. I think you'll be okay with the insurance.
kmoore 97 Posted September 3, 2012 Here is the criteria for United Healthcare and WLS: https://www.unitedhealthcareonline.com/ccmcontent/ProviderII/UHC/en-US/Assets/ProviderStaticFiles/ProviderStaticFilesPdf/Tools%20and%20Resources/Policies%20and%20Protocols/Medical%20Policies/Medical%20Policies/Bariatric_Surgery.pdf It basically says BMI of 40 or greater OR 35 with one or more co-morbidity (and they list these). You will also have to go through 6 month medical management.
