9 Days Post-Op - So Unhappy

Recommended Posts

I want to start by saying how much I love and appreciate this forum, everyone here has been great at getting me through all of the struggles pre-op and now post-op.

I am 9 days post-op and I feel horrible, is this normal? I do not have any energy; I have a hard time even finishing one Protein Shake per day. I feel like I am going to vomit when I eat and if I do not eat I vomit; WHEN WILL THIS PHASE PASS?

Please someone out there help with your wisdom...

A lot of people on here have experienced problems getting Protein in at your stage. Surely some of them will chime in. Are you getting the required amount of fluids yet? The lack of energy is perfectly normal.

You're just barely a week out from major surgery on your stomache. It's completely normal for where you're at... You have to heal, and really work at getting your Water in with tiny sips and try to incorporate Protein sips. Naseau, and feeling tired are all part of the healing process. Just keep up with your liquids. :)

Keep your chin up. What you are feeling is normal. Everyday will get better. Give yourself a break. You just had major surgery. Sip rest and walk. Let your body heal and adjust. You are doing great!

Some one mentioned here to use peppermint oil to take a little sniff to help with nausea. I am going to get a bottle myself as I prepare for surgery.

I'd say yes, its normal. I'm 11 days out and am just focusing on ME. My hubby has stepped in and is taking care of the household, although we have dogs, not kids. But I take care of dogs for a living & he's really helped me. We have 2 dogs here right now that had no place else to go while I am recovering because their mom is in the hospital. Anyway, can you get help so that you are just concentrating on YOU?

It's really, really important to get liquids in at this stage. Dehydration will do awful things to

you body, including becoming depressed. Can you have full liquids yet? Don't pay attention to carbs & calories at this stage. I never drank Crystal lite and those other drinks before, so I'm not drinking them now. I'm doing broths, teas & now pureed Soups. Find what you like & can tolerate. As i'm slowly adding new things I only try one new item a day. Your tummy needs time to digest.

When you get to soft foods, then I'd start to pay attention to what you eat. But for the first few weeks, hydration is the most important, then Protein.

Even liquids at diff temperatures may help you. I like room temp, while others like it cold. Experiment!! And don't feel guilty about being sluggish! Your body went thru major surgery. I think that we all expect more of oursleves than we should.

Hang in there,

Judy

If you aren't holding nothing down I would see your doctor. The hospital would not let me leave until I did. I hate Protein Drinks. I am getting Protein in by liquid (2 tablespoons = 18 grams)because I'm 10 days post op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
