My surgery is September 10, and I have a previously scheduled weekend trip October 5, 25 days after surgery. That will be 3 days into eating non-pureed food. Is that too soon? Am I pushing it? I will have a hotel suite with a mini-kitchen and can take some food with me, but I will be eating out part of the time.

You might ask your doctor that question especially since every surgeon is different with rules regarding travel. I think it depends on how far you are planning on travelling, by car,,plane..etc.

I went on vacation 3 weeks to the day after my surgery and while it was a little hard for me not to be able to eat all the things that my family was indulging in, there were still plenty of things I COULD eat since I was making the switch to soft foods. I was still a little week and got tired faster than I expected to, but I still had a great time. :)

I just did a 24,000 mile trip while on soft foods. It was easier than I thought. There are lots of good soft choices. It is good to get out. Some people let this operation turn them into hermits. Get out and live.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
