I had a complication I ended up with pnemonia and a blood clot. I chose the sleeve because, it offered the most benefits and least amount of complications. I got unlucky but, would do it again in a minute I am 27 lbs down and I haven't had a lot of gas pain. I am struggling with Protein and getting liquids in but, I am working on it and have not been hungry once. I fill up quickly and am hopeful this is going to be the tool to finally help me lose this weight.

Hi' date='how did your surgery go? I am thinking about the sleeve,I am going though the steps. Why did you choose the sleeve?

How long did the gas pain last?[/quote']

Overall my surgery has gone very well. I had it on 9/4 and was released on 9/7. The reason for the delayed release was due to dry heaving immediately after the surgery which was awful. I also had elevated BP which needed to be under control. I chose the sleeve because I only need to loose about 80 lbs. when I started (Pre surgery & liquid diet) on 8/21 I was at 220 lbs and I'm now at 195. So so far so good. My diet after surgery for 7 days consisted of Clear Liquids (water, crystal light, green teas,), for the next 14 days thru week 3 post surgery I'm on cloudy liquids (cream Soup, Protein shake). I'm looking forward to 8/26 when I start puréed foods. I really did not experience gas pain or any major pain for that matter. Although I do take the pain meds to help me be more comfortable at night. Again overall things are well in fact I flew on Friday to attend a business trip.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
