My doctor says I can't have "sticky rice", does that include fried rice? When you say "sticky rice", I think of sushi. What do you guys think, or what have your doctors said about rice?

P.S. I am 7-8 weeks post-op, and tolerating all other foods I've been eating well.

Carbs, especially "white" carbs are a no no. No only for the fact that they don't have any real nutritional value for us, but they cause us to want more carbs. And then rice swells in our stomach which is not good. It can make you sick. I would, PERSONALLY, steer away from them. Especially at the beginning of the losing phase when every day and every bite counts.

I am 8 weeks out and had rice for the first time this week. It was plain rice with beef in a sauce over it (I made it....not take out). Not sure if this helps....don't know if your doc meant true sticky rice or not. Plain rice can be "sticky" also...that's why I made sure I had plenty of sauce to mix with the rice I had. Hope this helps a little. :) And it was just a touch of rice....but it is what I made for dinner.< /p>

Just clarify it with him. Initially I stayed away from rice, but when cleared I literally ate a lil rice at least 4-6 times a week with chicken or steak and veggies, and I got to goal. It's all a balance. Best wishes.

I have yet to do rice. It's only due to my dr. telling me, as he had sleeve surgery 2 years ago, that it fills him up way too fast. I know the carb content, so I have just chosen to avoid it. One day maybe, but it'll be in small portions (very small) as it expands in your tummy. I agree with sleeve 4 me... balance.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
