I went to my one week post op check up and turns out I am allergic to the glue from the steri strips used to tape up my incisions! I shake my fist at you!! My entire stomach is itchy and I have red bumps around my incision sites. Currently chugging children's Benadryl. Cheers!

I hear ya! I'm also allergic to Adhesives. I wear a red ALERGIC TO ADHESIVES wrist band when in the hospital and the nurses put signs on my door and above my bed. And yet, every morning after my blood draw the tech would try to put a regular bandaide on me!!! I really have to be hyper-vigilant.

Along w oral Benedryl, get topical extra strength cream in a tube. You can put it one your tummy every hour or so, just be careful with it getting into any incisons that haven't formed a scab.

Good luck!

Judy

I feel your pain! My surgeon used a new type of surgical glue that I'm apparently allergic to. The worst part is that it mainly effected the incision on my left side (you know, the only one that's really painful.) So I scratched the crap out of it and got a surface infection. Fortunately, the did a sonogram and there isn't any infection under the incision. Picked off the glue and the bumps and itching went away.

But I guess if this is the only complication we have, we're lucky!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
