I have to ask a stupid question....

If your best friend died and of course you would never see them again...you would mourn them of course.

The cheesesteak didn't did. Neither did the steak and crab. They just went on a little trip to Europe for some culture and will come back better than they were before. You can eat them, you just can't gorge on them. That cheesesteak is once a year...perfect cuz next year honey you won't take up so much space in line and you can share yours so you'll have money for some of those awful trinkets we all feel we NEED from state fairs (bull Mose horn towel rack anyone?).

My docs approach is that nothing is off limits though nutrition comes first. Five meals of a cup each is quite a bit of food at one year out so why mourn. Give them a going away card and wait for their return where unlike now, you will be in controll of the welcome party, not the food :)

I an looking at this a bit differently:

We've ALL been on diets before our sleeve where we had to restrict ourselves. Obviously, we all failed at those diets. :-). And we've all gorged ourselves with foods we loved because we couldn't stop at just a few bites.

Well, I'm looking at my sleeve as a way to enjoy ALL foods again, with no guilt. Gustavo posted on another topic about being exposed to a decadent chocolate cake recently and he didn't crave a huge peice, but knew if he wanted to, that he could stop at one or two bites. THAT's what I'm looking forward to. No more food guilt trips, or overindulgences of food. But that I can have a bite or two of WHATEVER my sleeve will tolerate and be happy. Of course I'll have to be careful and not constantly eat whatever I want, but the knowledge that one bite of something delicious isn't going to send me down a path of glutony makes me positvely giddy with happiness.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
