Single Incision Question

Recommended Posts

Oh, this would be the icing on the cake, if I can have the single incision. And I love cake....

I also have a very physically demanding job, lifting, pulling, rolling patients. This would probably heal faster and allow me to get back to work sooner.

So glad I saw this.....

I had the single incision. The Dr. mentioned it to me and I said: "at my age I'll never wear a bikini again so go ahead with single incision BUT if it makes the procedure harder for you, than just do it the regular way". He inspected my stomach and thought I was a good candidate (I am short-waisted so that makes sense based on the previous poster who mentioned long torso being an issue for si). I do not feel I had any more pain but of course that is hard to say. My incisions did not bother me at all except they itched as they healed and when mine were healed other posters who were sleeved around the same time seemed to be having issues with their many incisions. I think there is less chance of infections etc because less incisions. I actually had 3 but two were just little dots that had a surgistrip over them, you wouldn't know they were even an incision. I think that is where the camera and something else go in.

I'm glad I found this post because the single incision is exactly what I plan to get. My torso is short so I doubt he will have any problems. I am worried about the increased risk of hernia but he also said that I could get a hernia with the regular 5 incisions also. My surgery is in 2 weeks :)

I had the SI sleeve on 9/4. I couldn't believe how fast I felt great. The morning of my 4th day out, I was off of my pain meds. It itches and drains still since its in a tricky spot, but no pain. I had seen an ad for this procedure online and asked my surgeon if she would do it. She said that she could, it's a bit more difficult, but feasible. I told her it wasn't a big deal if she couldn't, and I didn't want any complications. The other site for the liver retractor is so small! It's about a 1/4 inch. This one around my belly button is bigger. It's shaped like an Omega.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
