My NUT told me exercise is for toning and diet is for losing. She actually recommends just walking. At some point i will go back to the boot camp i was part of but i am going to see how it goes before i decide. Its pretty strenuous so i might wait until around christmas and slowly work up to it in the meantime. I felt really good when i was going.

But the weight loss is just one part of being healthy. You aren't as healthy as you can be if you aren't exercising. Your heart, limbs, brain all get healthier with exercise. It's not just about losing the weight. I would recommend atleast walking.

Exercise burns calories. Dieting reduces calories. They are both for weight loss. But exercise has the added benefit of making you feel better, live longer and be healthier. Weight loss by itself will not guarantee those things. If you don't believe me, look around at all the unhealthy skinny people in the world. There are plenty.

Here it talks about fatness vs fitness

http://todayiwill.com/2010/01/fitness-vs-fatness-diet-vs-exercise-for-weight-loss-2/#.UEGTK5R5t3o

But i also must mention that i would not consider myself lazy even without your typical workout routine. I work horses daily and have a job that keeps me on my feet 8-10 hrs a day. Before surgery i could easy run up several flights of stairs without being winded. My NUT actually told me I could cut back to the lower Protein requirements if I wanted to lose some of my muscle to not be so "bulky." (Her body mass thingy put me in the OVER category for muscle mass) I laughed and told her no thank you I will keep all the muscle i can.

So it truly comes down to how "Lazy" you are talking. I have low pulse and blood pressure and absolutely no comorbidities. But I am active in my everyday life. I will choose to add some exercise plans as i go.

But to answer the original question... yes you probably can lose the weight you want with diet alone. But don't expect to feel your best or look your best. And there are things to do besides the typical gym exercise routines...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
