Ready4success 380 Posted August 31, 2012 I'm 3 days out and had been just battling gas, but I heeded the advice to never trust a fart, and boy am I glad I did. My first bm since surgery has been diarrhea. Anyone had this happen to them before? I had 1/2 an Atkins shake mixed with 1/2 skim milk, about an hour ago. Now, explosions. Sorry, if it's TMI. It feels good to not be so stopped up, but now I'm worried about my hydration status? Anyone?
pinkbwlr16 20 Posted August 31, 2012 I'm 10 day post op and the explosions will continue to come, if your going at all. The other night I swear I literally cleared every ounce of liquid I had in my system out with one bm. Just keep drinking fluids and you'll be ok.

I kept reading how everyone is so constipated, I thought something was wrong.
Izuri 428 Posted August 31, 2012 Yeah, I had this issue too. All liquid in, all liquid out. It will get better as you move on to puree and soft foods. Just make sure you're getting in enough Water every day.
upwardfocusedgirl 33 Posted August 31, 2012 It may have been the milk. I haven't been able to tolerate dairy in most forms since my surgery. The smallest bit of ice cream or glass of milk has me running for the restroom.
Ready4success 380 Posted August 31, 2012 It may have been the milk. I haven't been able to tolerate dairy in most forms since my surgery. The smallest bit of ice cream or glass of milk has me running for the restroom. It's weird because I put skim milk into my cream of broccoli and blended it. I had no problems with it, but I'll be careful. I'm enjoying the full liquids stage, but getting the Protein in is hard. Thanks

kczar 166 Posted August 31, 2012 I haven't had that problem at all. I'm on the opposite end of this situation. Maybe it's because I started hitting my Protein goal four days out and it has that effect on me. Probably need to add my Fiber gummies back in!
slimmom24angels 47 Posted August 31, 2012 It is probably the milk. My NUT came in my room today, just to go over my post op diet. She mentioned that I should try to stay away from dairy products because we are prone to be lactose intolerant after surgery. Well, I was intolerant before the surgery. But she recommended using Soy Almond Milk Light with my shakes. I actually used almond milk during my 2 week Protein Shake diet, and I love it. It read lactose free on the carton, and has a great taste. So you may want to try that.
